I revisited my older piece "Interceptors".

Two Dauntless class starships drop out of quantum slipstream and intercept unidentified spatial objects entering Federation space near the Lytosian Nebula. Are these bizarre objects some sort of advanced alien spacecraft, temporal bubbles, space organisms that call the Galaxy their home, or natural phenomena defying the known laws of physics? Starfleet will get some answers. And what better ship to get those answers than the fastest ever built. Though small, the Dauntless is fast, agile, and very powerful with its sophisticated Quantum Slipstream Drive that makes it perfect as a long-range interceptor.

The Dauntless class was used by the Federation in the 26th century along with the Enterprise J as it is seen in the background of the battle of Procyon V. The alien Arturis seems to have seen the design in the Federations' future, and it was from this experience that he patterned his trap for the U.S.S. Voyager - the highly advanced illusion of the Dauntless class with its Quantum Slipstream Drive, making it one of the fastest ships ever built. He almost succeeded in convincing Captain Janeway it was the real Federation ship from the future.
