The U.S.S. Appalachia prepares to warp away from a gorgeous region of space known as the "The Hammer and Forge" nebula, which the Steamrunner class just finished surveying for 3 weeks. Although they discovered the lost wreckage of a Promellian battle fleet and a plasma creature living in the nebula that resembled earth's fireflies (among many other notable finds), Captain Erika Benteen is eager to move on to the neighboring Gargantua Cluster, where local legends have spun stories of rogue gravity waves that destroy ships, sentient energy monsters that drag ships into the dangerous depths of the turbulent region, and ghost ships that drift inside and lead travelers on to disaster.
"We'll separate the myth from the matter!" Benteen announced. "On your mark," Lt. Alvis replied. "Mark 232" she ordered. "Warp one...get set...and go!"
The ship leapt forward into distance and vanished in a gleam of light, intent to discover mysteries on its 5 year mission to chart this amazingly diverse region of space.
