One question: I have no idea what sort of smudge settings I should have to get what you got in the tutorial. I tried playing around but I failed miserably. xD

And as for smudge settings, it's really up to you. As long as you know how to move a slider and where the brushes panel is, you're good to go. xDD I usually use a little scattering on a default chalk brush, and lower the hardness of the brush. Virtually any smudge settings will work for this part, though, so if you can't figure something out you can just view a smudge tut to get some settings you like.
