Thanks. It's a famous Polish coal mine "Wujek" ("Uncle") where 9 miners were shot by communistic militia forces in 1981 when they striked against the martial law.

Woah... that's a sad story. America has many stories of coal miners who lost their jobs, and sometimes their lives, while on strike. Working in a coal mine is a very brutal job...

Yes. I can say that the region of Poland I live in, Silesia, is the most industrialized area in the country. Coal mining is the basis. If you say "Silesia" wherever you are in Poland, you think "coal" or "miners". Silesia is the coal. Coal is Silesia. Coal is called "the black gold" of the land. In some families working as a miner is a tradition, a heritage, with all the ethos it carries.

Well, as I said, coal mining is a tradition, but now it's in recession and of course other areas of business and industries dominate in Silesian district. You now can find more coal mines revitalized and turned into shopping malls, but still many of them are still working. In some cities you can even "meet" a mine shaft tower in the very center, at high street

Na Wujka nie bardzo. Studiowałem w tej okolicy 2 lata. Wszystko konkretnie ogrodzone, nie widziałem opcji za bardzo.
