I saw this mandala in a folder of my artwork and decided that I wanted to play around with it. I ended up with this result that I quite enjoy it. It sort of has an optical illusion quality to it, in that certain parts of some of the "petals" look like they have darker shading on them, giving the mandala a sort of 3D layered look. It does not have any shading. It's just a flat, black and white digital drawing. When I saw that feature, I thought it was pretty nifty.

As a side note, this piece actually helped me gain a better understanding of shading using hatching methods, which I had not expected. The "spokes" in the rings of the petals sort of acted like hatching, though it wasn't meant to fulfill that function. As a result, some of the petals look more grey, rather than black or white when viewed from a distance.

I am completely enamored with the stark contrast of black and white when it's done a certain way, as in this piece here.

This is the first deviation I've posted here for a while. I've been more active on Instagram lately, but I thought I should probably start posting here again, too.
