My Blaziken mask was made out of a paper pulp-style paper mache I bought at Β local craft store (Celluclay, I do believe it was called), so I didn't have the problems with the strips. It was more like a disobedient clay.

I wonder if you could put the paper-pulp type of paper-mache into a mold. I don't see why not! I bet it would tame your disobedient clay

Most likely! If you're not careful about it's thickness in a mold it'll take quite a while to dry and it might be a touch heavy, but if you mind the thickness I see no problems with that! That would work rather well.

Never would have thought of using plaster to make a mold. I already gave up on using a mold since resing and the like is so expensive, but this is way cheaper.
Would this also work for something that's completely round? Like the top of this staff for example:

Could you give me any tips on how to make this?

Hmmm. No, I don't think I'd recommend using paper-mache for something so 3-D, it would take more trouble than its worth. I think I'd recommend sculpting the whole head of his staff out of styrofoam, the part with the eagle's head. You could buy a 4'x8' flat sheet of pink insulation foam from the hardware store (they don't come any smaller) then cut it and glue it together in one big thick block that's the size you need. Then I'd go at it with a knife, and sculpt the whole thing!

Thanks for the reply. I'll keep that method in mind for next time. I started sculpting the staff with paper clay, which seems to work out as well.
