Description
Wow this was fun to do!!!I went on a huge nostalgic Disney kick the other day, and pulled out my favourite Disney movie of all time: The Little Mermaid. The music and art never fail to inspire me, and I found the entire soundtrack on youtube and put it on loop several times as I did this picture. Originally Ariel was supposed to be much darker, almost to the point that you couldn't tell who she was (originally this piece was titled "Who Is that Mysterious Woman", from Eric's point of view as he blearily sees Ariel over his shoulder), but after I played with the colors a bit, I thought this was more suitable.
The favourite part to do was the fin, and that only took 1/25th of the time it took to do everything else T^T. I had hoped I could have done more with it, but I had reached my "happy" threshold for it and my brain already then itched to do something else. The hair took as long as the sky and the sea.
I realize there are quite a lot of issues with her anatomy and the shading of the lighting source; any constructive criticism or suggestions on such would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks for looking, and mucho thanks for any comments/favs and feedback! Hope you enjoy it!

First of all, your coloring is amazing! As for the anatomy, you did great on the hands and shoulders, but her chest seems squished while her waste opens out too widely, looking at the direction and appearance of the tail, it makes her bottom half looks bigger then her upper half. Drawing her whole body and then adding any covering features, like the rocks, might help and a hint of ears might make a better frame for her face. Aside from that, the lines are great and the way you drew her hair adds to the vibrancy of the whole piece.

Omgoodness, thank you so much for your critique!!! You're completely right about her waist, looking back it is far too wide if you consider the angle of her tail. Thank you very much for the super suggestions too (especially about the ears as well!) - I'll be sure to keep those in mind the next time I draw! Thank you so much for your comment!!

GASP Hunchback of Notre Dame has been dethroned??
I love love love her hair and the colour palette, especially the sky and ocean. It really adds to the mood of the piece.

EEE, thank you!!
No, I still love Hunchback too ...In general there has always been 3 huge Disney movies that I love the most - Hunchback, Little Mermaid, and Pocahontas. Those 3 never fail to inspire me. Speaking of which, I'm somehwat inspired to go and do an Esmeralda piece right now!
Thank you! I'm really liking adding backgrounds to things now, it makes things so much more fun and interesting to work with. I also like the texture in this piece, but I don't even know how I managed to get it, I'm assuming it's an unintentional byproduct of me working at low opacity, low blending, and low dilution so much in Sai.

Oh, boy...this one is incredible! This is the kind of work that I expect might make Ariel herself cry a tear of joy if you showed it to her - what strike me especially here are the hair and the eyes. Be proud of this one - very, very proud. (Faves and prepares to recommend it around)

Anytime! I've only got a small batch of Disney deviations (including one involving Ariel) and I'm not up to your level, but would it be okay if I asked you to take a look at them and leave your opinions with some comments?

More like photos and arrangements of photos with a good dose of writing thrown in with the As I Know Her deviations. All of my Disney deviations involve photos taken at the parks.

So pretty, I love her face. My only constructive thing to say is that her boobs look a little flat Dunno why but they look a little smooshed by the seashells...
But everything else, her hands (jealous) her hair - so lovely

OMG it's true, they do! It seemed natural at the time, for some reason I thought her boobs would be squished (pushing forward and all that) but now I realize that her boobs shouldn't be that smooshed at all! Now looking it, the physics of it sure doesn't work...
Thanks for the constructive criticism!! I'll keep a careful eye out for future boob smooshing!

This is gorgeous, the colours and combination are very vivid and beautiful. She looks a little like Marion Cotillard here!

Thank you very much!!
I didn't realize that! I think Marion Cotillard is far more regal and elegant than how I drew Ariel here, so I'm flattered that she looks a little like her!
Thanks again for the comment!
