Description
This is how I color skin in my anime styled drawings.I dunno if this'll help anyone but imma upload it anyway.
I don't feel that verbal today so there's probably tons of typos and such.
I know that many had hoped a drawing tutorial not a coloring tutorial, but asdfgh these things take so much time to make, anatomy tutorials even more, so I can't really promise when I'll get one done.

o u o Oooooh, looks so nice~ But just wondering, um how did you clean up the colouring when you went outside the lines? o . o;; Did you just erase them?

Question, when you finish coloring/shading and you have color on the outside of the line art, do you simply erase it or is there a quicker, more efficient way to cut out excess color? Like how do you lock the line art so when you color, nothing goes outside of it?

Please read the "For Starters" again.
I paint the base color layers by hand, this way you'll have to make sure yourself that the color doesn't go over the lineart.
You can then use these base color layers to avoid the shading and lighting going over the lines by using the 'Clipping Group' tab on top of the layer panel and clipping the shading layers to the base color layer below.

what I don't understand is, how do you know what layer should be on top or bottom of another layer :/ I don't understand layers or folders at all. I'd appreciate it if someone could please inform me to help me out :/ thank you. I really love your art by the way
so amazing. how long did it take you to be such a good artist?

Hi, think of layers as transparent sheets placed on top of each other.
If there's nothing drawn on the sheets you'll see through them all but if you paint a flower on the bottom layer and then color any layer above it black, you won't be able to see the flower anymore. I hope I made any sense. : D

oh I get it! Thank you soooo much for the help and for taking the time to reply back! :3 I've haven't been drawing for that long but once in a while I draw really good! but when I want to put it on here! It's so hard to scan it right. then it's hard to draw on the computer D: so really none of my good works are on deviantART. so hopefully I get the hang of layers and stuff ^-^" thank you again.

Do you mind if I save your skin and hair tutorial to my laptop? Just for my tutorial and reference folder. I will not redistribute or claim as my own.

For the ambient light, is it just a random color?
π: 0 β©: 1
BloodlineV In reply to MangaPhilosopher [2013-02-25 16:32:41 +0000 UTC]
Yes, but if the picture has a background then the ambient light could match the color of that background.
