Description
Picture this: You're a freshly created Hyro Who completed their educational requirements in the undergrOund facilities. As you ventuRe above ground, you read the signs Littering the siDes of the path to the firSt town checkpoint by your home plant. One or tWo of the signs congratulate you on your accomplishments of leavIng the plant, but the vast majority of these dozens of signs are pLastered with warnings. The general consensus of these warnings is that anyone who strays off path will likeLy suffer a brutal death. They warn you of these otherworldly beings that have been named "ArChangels," that they are far deadlier than yOu could possibly think.ArchangeLs are not native to Vythrosa.
These beings are parasitic aliens hailing from an unknown soLar system. It is widely believed and accepted that they came from the comet that dawned the creatIon of Hyros to begin with. Upon the worlD-ending comet lied thousands of eggs bElonging to this alien race. With only the need for hydrogen to survive, the eggs remained dormant but safe in the vacuum of space until it crashed onto Vythrosa. These eggs began to hatch, but like many of the species that managed to survive the major extinction level event the comet caused, Archangels were faced with an impending ice age. Throughout the ice age, Archangels bred day and night. There were not many life forms emitting traces of oxygen, and thus they had nothing to pursue.
After the ten thousand years time period the Hyros plants were programmed to wait, Archangels had populated much of the world above ground. The first Hyros to venture above ground were not expecting to be struck down and mauled to death by these aliens. Nothing in their educational programs mentioned Archangels. It seemed as if they were put on their planet by extraterrestrial means, earning them the name "Archangels".
Archangels only need hydrogen to survive, but they thrive when consuming oxygen. The oxygen in the air is just enough to keep them wanting more. A Hyro's body weight is made up of 75% oxygen. Archangels can sense compact amounts of oxygen and use their incredible sense of smell (or rather sense of chemicals) to hone in on nearby Hyros. Their entire body is covered with pores that can detect oxygen levels around them, but more sensitive areas of their body have a denser cluster of pores, such as their mouth. Consuming Hyros gives Archangels an incredible boost of oxygen and can send them into a frenzy from absorbing such a large amount of it at once. This makes them extremely dangerous after eating one or two Hyros, thus making them harder to kill.
Hyros can disguise themselves somewhat from nearby Archangels if they cover themselves entirely with large amounts of strong chemicals. Anything without oxygen in it is good enough to hide their scent. Hyros can use this to their advantage to hunt nearby Archangels. While their skin is tough, it is not impossible to pierce, making Archangels vulnerable to most weapons. Additionally, some Hyros can be more susceptible to becoming a target of an Archangel if they have a surplus of oxygen in their bodies. Hyros who produce excess oxygen must exhale to rid themselves of it, and Hyros, even if disguised under a layer of different chemicals, can give their locations away by breathing out.
