I've tried out many styles of shading, and they all turn out disastrous. This is really very helpful!

I think it would probably also work in other image editors, such as Gimp (freeware), though I've never used that. So I'm not sure.

Well, it shouldn't be too different from Paint. I've tried it once on my uncle's computer. Try Googling some Gimp tutorials. There should be quite a few of them around, probably on DA too.
