This was made for the many people who want to know how I have so much control over my lines.

This is quite a quickie, so don't comment saying how much of a lack-luster job I did... xD

Enjoy!

Hmm... I'm not sure. I think Photoshop 7 might be the problem. When I had Photoshop 7 with my tablet all I got was a small little options box with three different settings. Photoshop CS2 and CS3 have huge menus with countless settings.

On Photoshop 7, look at the bar going a crossed the top of the screen. (Just below File, Edit, Insert, etc.) Look over to the right and to the left of some tab-like things there should be a button with a paint brush on it. I think... It's been a year or so since I last used PS7... Click on it and it should bring up a little box. I don't remember exactly what the settings were, so you might have to just fiddle around with them to figure out what they do.

I did a quick search and found THIS . Maybe it could help. Probably will help more than me, heh heh! Like I said, I haven't even laid eyes on Photoshop 7 in ages. I also kind of suck at giving instructions...
It does seem that there are a lot of tablet PC users that have trouble with Photoshop 7. There were a lot of search results...

Well, good luck! If it doesn't work then I could do some more digging to try to find a solution.

Hey! First question:
Is this for CS2? This leads straight onto quesions two:
I click the "pen" icon in the tools menu and the default is set to the pen tool that actually draws lines which I knew straight off wasn'tboth my aim and whatyour tut was about. So I went to the freehand one, but if I draw a curvy figure, it just turns into a blob eg, if I draw a figure of 8, I get two big black blobs. I tried doing straighter lines, and it only works then, but nothing like how you describe in your tutorial, again defeating the purpose.

I bring up the brushe menu, but it's all embossed and I can't move or change a thing!

It's CS2 and I've produced a number of 'alright' looking images, but haven't 'roperly' linearted yet, and every time I go to do so, it's just... Just no. Please could you help me out?

Ooh, wow. First questions on this tutorial. xD

Yes, this is CS2.

I actually don't use the default settings. I didn't think they made much of a difference, but oh well.
When you click on the pen tool icon;
1.) Make sure it's the PEN TOOL. (not freeform, add point, delete point, convert point, etc.)
2.) Make sure that the icons on the top tool bar are correct. There will be three boxes: one box with little boxes on the corners, on box that's the same as the first only with the pen icon inside, and one box that's just a box that you cannot click. (I think) Make sure you click the second box with the pen in it.
and 3.) Make sure that auto add/delete is selected.

To change the brush settings whilst messing with the pen tool you must click the Brush Tool in order to change a brush's settings. Then go back to the pen tool to use the pen tool features again. (I think it's stupid, but that's just the way it is. X_x; )

If there are still problems after you've tried all this, please tell me. I'll try to give better instructions and try to figure out for myself what your problem is exactly.

Hope this helped! ^_^

Thankyou for your help
Wish it worked though, like I put it on the pen tool without any problem, finding the icons was good, that was right, auto add/delete was also selected which was fine. The thing though when I clicked on the brush tool, chose a simple brush and went back to the pen tool, it still came up with the marking pivot.. Things it originally had. I did this a few times (marking different pivot points) and the colour was on black, but nothing was coming up. (apart from the pivot point... Things)

I'm sorry if I'm being annoying and hard to please I'm trying, I rerally am!

Hi, I did everything that the tutorial said about to simulate pen pressure, but there is no reaction... Do we have to have a tablet to use this? I have had photoshop before, but something happened to my last comp, and there this used to work...

Yes, you have to have a tablet installed and have it plugged in. If there is a little "!" in a triangle next to the sliders, then it won't work.

No problem! Tutorials are fun! ^_^

Thank you for reffering the tutorial to a friend! I hate it when people get compliments on a trait they use from a tutorial and just say, "Thanks! " It's, like, dude! You didn't come up with the thing! Give credit! >_<;;

Thanks for letting me know! It's nice to get feedback from friends!

exactly.
and on that note, i can't remember if i put any tutorial links in the description. i'm going to check and see. if i didn't, i'm definately going to stick this link in there real quick.
most of the time i'll upload an image and get in a hurry and forget half of the things i mean to put in the description and i'll look at it the next day and i'm like "well duh" lol and i have to change it.

i sometimes even forget to tell it to fullview it at a certain size
but you def. deserve credit for your tutorial

Ok! Fine by me! ^_^

LOL, I do that all the time! xD

Thanks much! I love it when people give credit to other artists! That's why I'm so paranoid about making sure I can include every single copyright I can... xD

yeah, me too. even if it's just inspired by something, i put it. like my trapped pictures were inspired by the movie cover for Captured [which was a great movie, by the way].
plus, i'd hate for someone to be like "hmm...this idea has been done before...etc" i'd be like "well duh, it was inspired by that"
so now, if someone says that about my trapped series, i'll be like "yeah, read the comments and you'll see that i was inspired by that...duh"

lol

thank you so very much! i tried playing with the brush options, but never really got a good result. i guess because i didnt know exactly what i needed to play with in order to change what i wanted
this really narrows it down for me and i will be trying this out next time i open photoshop!

Interesting, so is in that way that you make the lines^^
For now I ink with pen, then scan it and just the colouring, shading and effects are made in photoshop!
But I will keep this toturial in mind, one day I will use it!
See ya!

Yup! There are other things I do to lines to make them look like my line art, but these are the basics.
I'd like to try your style of line art some day. Most of my inking pens suck though... xD I need a 0.2 tip pen...
