Description
With a word like "poison"I couldn't pass the opportunity to feature Alice Cooper's iconic song. And it fits Robert's and Mary's relationship with Joseph so well... This piece is honestly my favourite so far, because of how passive agressive it is. I said there would be drama, well, here it is.Btw, I love Mary. Can you imagine Dream Daddy without her? She's at the heart of all the good (meaning:bad) stuff. She makes the plot 10 times more interesting. Now our 3 characters are on stage. We've got Joseph, Mary and Robert. That's a tragedy begging to happen.

This piece is seriously great. Despite the artist only using a palette of black, white and greys, they managed to add enough detail to indicate that the clothing they're wearing is made of a different texture than anything else. This artist made it obvious that the clothes were made out of leather and that they reflect light, and they pulled the same thing off with the wine glass. It's a small, but very noticeable touch to add to your work. You even made the cross more prominent so that no matter what, we knew that she was Joseph's wife.
The artist really captured atmosphere in a setting where all you have is two people, a wine glass, and a microphone. No special backgrounds, no change in colour or special light source, nothing but what you're actually looking directly at which is hard to do if you don't know how. But the artist did a darn good job with what they did draw. First we see Mary and Robert and we know that they are Mary and Robert and no one else. Mary because she has a crucifix necklace and a wine glass rather than any other form of alcohol that one would use when doing activities like karaoke because Mary gives off the idea that she's a classy lady despite going out at night to flirt and drink. Robert because he has a very distinct look, we know that's him because no one else looks scruffy with leather and slicked back hair. So we see that they are drinking and having fun together, so we know that they're probably having fun together at a bar since that is our initial introduction to the friendship of Robert and Mary.We automatically associate this scene with the very first time we saw a scene like this. And even despite that, it's still original because we don't see this side of her enough. We only see her like this when we choose Robert and because of that, it doesn't feel like something to commonly draw because the idea is still considered "different" in our minds. But this artist went for it and they did a fantastic job. Then there's the microphone that shows that they're probably singing together, especially since Robert is so close to her at the time. Then there's a big, noticeable speech bubble to the left that indicates that not only are they singing, but they are singing like no one is listening and they can sing it however they want. We also know that, even if we're unfamiliar with the actual song, we know what poison is and that it can be a metaphor for toxic things and people. The last thing that we see is the speech bubble that says, "To our beloved Joseph.... He knows why." It indicates that the reason they're up there singing about poison is because of something that Joseph recently did since, even though she doesn't have a happy relationship with her husband, she never speaks too badly about him when she isn't already upset with him in the first place. So already, just looking at the picture, we connect with the scene immediately because we know exactly what is happening at the time.
Without even seeing the description of this picture, I was seeing this as an event that could have probably happened at some point in the game. I was trying to fit it into the timeline of the game, thinking things like, "Well this could have happened the night that Joseph and Mary split up, maybe they're drawing to fill some part of the game's timeline." It's great because, in a game that relies heavily on story telling, details, and timelines, art that is also made with these things kept in mind makes for the best kind because we can see it happening. It seems very plausible and we can't help but compare it to the game we love so much in the first place. I absolutely love the way it accurately portrays everything.
When I got to the description, I knew that the artist was really thinking and really trying with this one because they didn't just write it because this is something the characters would do. They explain why they picked Poison, showing that they remember the song fondly, that it was something they had to associate the word with, that the song fits these three characters and their relationships, showing us that they really thought about the characters when doing this. And again, with a game like this one, character building is the best thing you can have for something that has to tell us the same or almost same basic story every single time. This artist then mentions how much they love Mary and how big she is in the story, how much of the story is impacted by just her. And they're right. I haven't played the whole game, but I know for a fact that she impacts at least two routes in that game (Joseph's and Robert's, of course, the only other two people mentioned in the drawing) and that, without her, things would be way different. She wasn't just "an obstacle," she was a character. And the artist knows this. They wanted us to see her the way they do, they wanted to tell us that this is what Mary is, someone with a lot of passive aggressive anger, someone who loves spending the night with her friend, drinking and laughing and having fun, someone who can smile a lot more than you ever would have expected at first glance and they did it. They did an amazing job with this piece because it wasn't just regular fan art, it was a story. I have to say, I'm pretty impressed.
Forgive this long art critique, I got kinda carried away. Sorry that I didn't directly address you, the artist. But I figured I'd write it like this since others may see this.

This song was an instant classic as soon at it got out, and it will remain one for the generations to come. Some gems are just too pure. Alice Cooper made a few excellent songs like this.

Not in the sense that I know all the songs, because I don't, but I have several songs I absolutely love. One of them is "killed by love" it's from a more recent album I think, but it's really the kind of song you can sing in your car with passion. In fact, Alice Cooper in a great composer of songs that are nice to listen to while driving, cause I love to be loud in my car. I'm in the safety of my little closed box and I can sing as high and as loud as I want ^^

Especially when you consider the unused cult ending.

I like to twist it a little bit so that Joseph is really dark but also innocent. I like Joseph too much to make him a "bad guy" without giving it a reason. He's too precious

They are in love with the same man: Mary's husband, Joseph, who cheats on her with Robert occasionally. Everyone knows what's going on, but Mary and Robert also happen to be best friends so they don't fight each other. They just wish Joseph would make a choice and stop hurting them both. Because he does. He really hurts them. Not that he's even happy himself, mind you. On the contrary, he's got lots of issues, my poor Joseph, I love him. I love them all.
