Description
This was requested by who wanted me to draw England in a victorian outfit. I had this AU in my head about the face family, and I took the occasion to expand the concept and make a very pretty scene to celebrate that I finished what was on my list. This my last request.Arthur was born in the aristocracy and was a very quiet and weak child who would prefer to stay in the library than go hunting with the men of the house. when his health really became critical he was sent to a solarium in Switzerland where he met Francoise, a french girl his age with the same health issues and the same familial background. They became close, their knowledge of languages allowing then to talk to each other despite the different nationality. When Arthur started to get better, he went back to England but he and Francoise kept writing letters to each other. Francoise was still ill and Arthur was trying to distract her from her life in the hospital by writing her his views on his dayly life, and inventing stories for her. His family saw in this friendship a hope that his bilinguism might get him a career in diplomacy since he was no decent army material unlike his big brothers. By the time he reached his teenage years, his two brothers had died in the front and he was the only possible heir left to his parents who decided he couldn't be left living the life of a shy little girl, and they tried to make him fit the standarts he wasn't cut for, forcing him to go to parties where he was bored to death, dragging him in the woods to hunt and even putting a sword in his hands. His obvious lack of interest appaled his parents who were ashamed of him, and the obsessive love they could see developping in him for his french correspondant became a problem. Francoise was french, which would have been a suficient reason to say no, if on top of everyting she wasn't also some kind of sickly poet, unabale to carry a heir in her womb. They did all they could to erase the flame in the son's heart, only making it burn brighter. Francoise was no longer in a hospital but the operation to save her had left her with severe breathing complications that made it impossible for her to indulge in any physical effort, but she did move to England to be closer to Arthur. And once reunited, nothing Arthur's parents tried to do to separate them worked. Not even the promise they kept to disown Arthur if he decided to marry Francoise. It just happened that her parents were happy to provide for their daughter and their son-in-law, and Arthur's indeed succesful carrer in diplomacy kept them free from want. They had a pretty cottage and a staff to help. They lived happy and free and they made good friends within the litterary circle Francoise created, but they were missing something. A chance to take their love a step further and make it a family. Their bodies wouldn't do it, the doctors were positive it was way too dangerous for Francoise. After much hesitation they decided to adopt. Arthur could see than despite their talks, Francoise felt kinda guilty about it, and adoption was no casual thing in their society so he thought he'd spare her and start looking by himself. And after three orphanages he found one that had a blonde boy, srawny for his age,with the same blue eyes his wife had. A child name Alfred, that looked just like he could have been theirs. Unlike the others around him he never meddled in fights, and he had this strange green stuffed bunny. When Arthur asked him about this odd toy, the child told him an entire story, of how it was actually a flying bunny with invisible wings and healing powers. Arthur thought that his wife would adore him and he could see himself and her in Alfred's imagination and sweetness.
In this scene, he came back with Francoise. She's holding on to him because climbing the stairs in her excitement to see the child exhausted her and her corset isn't heping her lungs to pump air, but she's relieved that they are finally going to be parents. One look to the child tells her that her husband was right. He does look like them. For the three of them, this is a moment of hope, when the future seems to open up. they are going to be a family.

The picture itself it's adorable, I like how the colours match and the anatomy it's very good (Specially the hands, you drew them perfectly).
I really like the patterns of Francoise's dress, and love the feathers detail. The roses are very delicate, too.
The only thing it needs it's a bit of contrast, a slight lighting and a bit of shadows.
Also, the background it's nice and it fits the time.
But what really makes the picture is the description, the story you wrote for it. It sets the picture, the characters and their position.
It makes the picture warmer, nicer, more familiar, more adorable.
I think you did a very good job. So good I don't have enough words to say. Nicely done.

I'm not a huge fan of this character so I usually just ignore him.

Omg this is fantastic! I love the detail and historical accuracy you put into the attires, like with francine's dress pattern and the roses and feathers in her head and Arthur's vest. the anatomy is also great; Arthur's crouching posture and how each of the postures complement each other and connect to be able to convey an unspoken message; it can be seen the trust and warmth between the characters by just their gaze and posture. The aged background makes it look like a photograph too. Also the little story that you came up with it; It gives a background about how this came to be, it was sad at first but in the end it had a happy ending. I am also a fan of the FACE family so the fact that you put two of my favorite things together made me squeal with joy! tl;dr It was worth the wait thank you very much! ;v;

I took the pattern for the dress from a set of printed fabric from the V&A museum so it makes it more accurate^^
I'm glad you like it I was really invested in both the drawing and the story so it was in the same time pleasant and challenging to do it, it went further than expected but i'd say in he end its a good thing

I haven't paid much attention APH in several years, but I'm glad I found this gem. You have a lovely semi-realistic style and have a better grasp on human anatomy than I ever will. The colors match both each otherand the characters that wear them and for whatever reason that makes me happy. I also love Francoise's dress! And the story is really excellent as well. All in all, a very lovely piece of work!

When I started drawing I didn't make efforts on clothes, I had to focus on anatomy first, and now that I am more comfortable with that, after all the years it took me, I'm starting to try and improve on other stuff like shadows, background or, as you can see here clothes. That's what appalling and in the same time amazing about drawing: once you start to be good at one thing, you work on the other things. The difficuly is part of the fun^^
