Starcraft 2: Protoss Fleet BeaconModeled by Phill Gonzales, final texture pass by Ted Park!
The Fleet Beacon was a placeholder model which never seemed to find a worthy replacement, so eventually it was just updated and shipped in the final game. Allen Dilling did some good effect work on the center sphere, a welcome change from the simple fishbowl on the Fleet Beacon in Starcraft 1.

Nice work! but umm...I had a little disappointment about that new 'fish bowl'.
Huge crystal sphere which seen in original SC's fleet beacon has a background lore that it strengthen and magnify the warp lift created by Stargate, allowing it to the largest protoss warships.
I truly love this background lore, and also look foward to see that large crystal sphere in SC2, but..OMG, it changed..like holographic!
Of course I love your SF-like holographic sphere, but...well, by fan of original SC arts and lores, I was little sad about changed fish bowl..

I completely understand where you're coming from! Our reasoning stemmed from wanting to invigorate the Protoss a little more since every building had crystal adornment, it stopped feeling special, even when the Fleet Beacon had the largest crystal. The holographic sphere is intended to convey more technological/computing advancement.
