Description
Starcraft 2: Protoss ReplicantModeled by Phill Gonzales, final texture pass Mr.--Jack and Steve Provost
Animated by Steve Provost
The short lived Protoss Replicant was always intended to be made of arbitrary Protoss technological shapes since its main ability was mimicking enemy units. Most of the charm of this unit came from Steve's great animation work on the Replicant's core.

That Protoss Replicant's model was used for the new LotV Protoss unit which is the Disruptor. Too bad the Replicant never make it in the final version of the game. I hope that the Disruptor make its full appearance in LotV

What is up with these energy ball units for protoss?

The whole spin on Protoss is they use technology that isn't understood easily, the shapes and mechanics are so advanced that they seem alien. The energy balls are just another part of that idea.

I find your comment funny because I read a Starcraft/Mass Effect crossover, and this was a bit of the dialogue.
Swann: *looking at an Asari Dreadnought* That thing is horribly designed.
Raynor: I remember you saying the same thing about the Protoss before.
Swann: Yeah but those guys are Space Wizards, they can get away with crap like that.

It seems odd to me that SCII taking place four years after brrrod war, that the protss would have trwon out a good portion of there army in sush a short time.

sorry, on a lap top so ill keep going.
Then they transition from very functional, look at the stargate or gateway, to having extra things all over there stuff. I dont really get it is all.

By any chance was some of the Replicant repurposed for the Core of the Mothership er Core? The Mothership Core seems to have something very similar in the middle at any rate...

It might have been, I didn't participate on those units, so I'm not entirely sure what went into making them.

Ooooh pretty. I remember the video showcasing this one where it turned into siege tanks. I hope we see this one in the LotV campaign Would be so cool!

I completely agree with you, I wish this stuff would go to some use rather than none.

well as you are in team can you share us the little secret about it. Like what makes some resource to remain in data and what makes them scrapped. So we have a fully completed unit / model/skin/icon and how do Blizzard decide what remain. I know some of them hold back for future contest but what about those that you won't use anymore?

Before shipping, usually the assets are looked over and the ones that are no longer in use combed out. We're at a point where there are so many pieces of art that nobody has a clear idea of what is actually in the game, and what isn't. So things get held back while other pieces slip through the cracks. Usually cut multiplayer art does not make it into the game unless it gets used in campaign, like the Warhound.

i had an idea in my mind for a long time. Blizzard could release small model packs with patches for the game. It would make the community happy and have more freedom in art styles, make usefull the work of the artists, also would help a bit about the fight against piracy (cracked games are harder to patch all the time for the models and as i know its quite hard to extract then reimport the models from mpq to a custom map.)

There are always ideas and new plans brewing, but I can't really speak about them. Stay tuned!

I'll miss this...
This isn't in the Map Editor, is it? Nor the classic zerg units? I'd die of a broken heart if they're not stuffed in that glorious program...
