Starcraft 2: Terran Bio Dome CommandModeled & Textured by Phill Gonzales
The Bio Dome Command was made specifically during the development of the single player campaign of Starcraft 2. Strike team meetings were held and took in suggestions about artwork that could enhance the feel of the single player missions. For the Dr. Hanson evacuation missions the idea was to have these colonization bio domes evacuating with the population. Although the idea behind their creation never came to pass, the Command Bio Domes still show up in the Haven missions.
The idea behind the design was simplifying the Terran Command Center into more a civilian building. The more angular shapes are easier to manufacture, and not as overbuilt and militarized. Thematically the command center is intended to establish a Terran colony, and this is a more mundane version compared to the ones used by the Terran military.

I know I'm revealing my age by saying this, but it kind of reminds me of the bio-domes aboard the Valley Forge in the movie Silent Running.
Again, the logic behind the design makes sense in keeping with established lore of terran tech being based on tried and true designs being re-used and modified rather than wasting time and resources on "reinventing the wheel". It really helps reinforce the illusion that when we're playing StarCraft, we're actually watching something real happening in another location rather than just playing a computer game. I really like that kind of detail, and appreciate those little "in-jokes" and elements that reinforce the internal logic of the game.

A vespene processor! The thought was they'd drop gas and minerals when you destroyed them, but it didn't make it to the final game.

For sure this is in the 3rd Colonist mission, the one where the Protoss try to purify the colony.

If that Bio-Dome has Pauly Shore and Stephen Baldwin in there, the Zerg will be so scared.

Brian Sousa actually put the Biodome poster in the stationary domes you see in the Evacuation missions. We had to take them out TT_____TT

Yes indeed, they fly and everything, which is a bummer since they don't get used.
