Pike regarded his first officer, “Ok, take Spock with you. We need to find the source of that distress call. There is no record of an Earth transport named Spindrift. Be careful as we will not be able to pull you out.”

A short time later the away team landed on a broad expanse of beach. As they opened the shuttles rear hatch a series of small tremors rocked the craft. Spock saw a split second before it happened but there was no time to react.

He and Una were snatched up into a giant hand and dropped into a jar. A giant native saw their shuttle land and was remembered stories his grandfather told him regarding the crew of a plucky red ship. He was not going to make the same mistakes though. These two were going to live for a long time.
