Head on over to my instagram Β to see some process stuff. Things like helmet variations, base sketch and a very sad face.

God damn I enjoy your art, keep it up, hopefully one day you will do a picture on a Hammer Slammers tank or inf.

Cheers man! I've just finished reading a brief summary of powerguns and hovertanks and it seems very interesting. Will be looking into it a bit more for sure.

What makes Hammer's interesting is all the grey area no hero GI Joe, but gritty mercs

The coloration of it vaguely reminds me of Imperial/republic/First Order troopers.
The shape of it reminds me of a lot of the Halo esque space marines we see in video games these days
The mandibles on the helmet remind me vaguely of the helmets worn by ground troops of the Holy Britannian Empire (Code Geass)
And the eye sockets remind a bit of a bug or an alien gray.Β
I don't mean in a derivative sense, it's totally original. I like it. The point I was getting too with the comparison would be that this would be a good potential design if Lucas/Disney wanted to make the Star Wars bad faction equivalent of Halo's Spartan, or a new First Order version of the Republic Commando.Β

Thanks for the comment!

Halo and Star wars were definitely reference points. Space Marines from Warhammer 40k even more so. The 'mandibles' were mostly referenced from current day full-head respirators.Β

The helmet is a fun one because I went through 8-9 iterations before settling on the current one. You can see those on my artstation or my instagram . Some of them were more 'halo' or 'star wars' than the final one.

Ah yes, I see. Very nice. One gave me a slight Helgast vibe while the other a gundam vibe. The rest had a vaguely anime/sci fi fps vibe, which is appropriate.Β
Ya know, if they were a team of equally powerful but somewhat more specialized squad, like say the Republic Commandos or the Imperial Scar Squadron from Disney Canon, you could have like 5 or so working in a group, but each one would get an individualized helmet based on his specialization. Even your "derpy" design is pretty cool.Β

A group of specialists would be a cool idea. I tried a version of the armour with a red left arm, to mark him out as a squad leader or something.Β  Small details like that could help make each soldier unique.

Its on the back burner at the moment, but I think doing an illustration with a squad of five ala Republic Commando (the game) would be a neat thing to do.

Thank you again for the appreciating this illustration and all the supplementary images that went with it!

It was a fun bit to add, but it was heavily inspired by an LMG in Rainbow 6 Siege. Specifically Maestro's Aldi LMG.

In any case Thanks!

Β SHINY - it must be nice to take a break from Gothic Dystopia and all its proudly overblown pseudo-archaic excesses, as you dive into the work of producing something so sleek and chic!Β

I know. The left are insane and must be stopped and crushed at all points using every hammer of resistance before they give the country up for a nebulous, non-existent concept like 'the world' that not even the likes of their lord and savior, the UN, really believes is a thing. Get wrecked come the mid-terms, lefty.

Also, the Imperium of Man, as much I loathe it (though mostly for other reasons), has plenty of in-universe reason to be rightfully fearful and hateful of 'the other,' so, as an 'other' yourself, kindly get over yourself, NPC.

Now, onto the design itself, as someone on Spacebattles, which is where I originally saw the design and the link to it, said:

forums.spacebattles.com/posts/…

"The gas-mask like filter cartridges and the saucer-like facial, covering the Zygomatic bone, the Temporal bone, and the bottom Parietal bone, on the helmet is out of place for myself to understand. Why couple those features along with the helmet...For extra protection, the battlefield they'll be fighting has hazardous air to breath in, or to allow the person to gain more focus on their target in front of them? May I question about does this have an interface to see through the helmet and why does the armor looks like it favors durability over versatility? Also utilizing a paint white job can lead myself to ponder if the designers had watch the Star Wars films for too long and believed painting the armor white and partially black was a good idea."
