Description
For this piece, I was trying to spend a more time rendering a single character and tried to approach the weathering with a more narrative approach (i.e. the battle damage and weathering should all contribute to the viewer's understanding of the situation taking place in the image). I constantly find myself falling into a tunnel vision approach to painting, which consequently makes the bigger picture suffer as a result. It is for this reason that I cut down what was going to be a multi character illustration to a single character. The line of thought was so that I could perhaps harness (?) this tunnel vision tendency to brush up on the rendering approaches for single character to free up mind "bandwidth" for keeping track of the "bigger picture".Another few tidbits about the image.
1: I was thinking a lot about motorcycle helmets at the time, so when deciding on a design I referenced those types of helmets. Instead of ... of you know... actual ballistic helmets
2: Also around the time of starting this image, I ran across the DesertTech MDR with its forward ejection system. I referenced that when looking for an "excuse" to have the brass fall forward.

Ill be honest, I like seeing numbers go up from time to time.
