this is nice but its also a good idea to remember that MOST females/males have a plenty of opposite(male-> femaleΒ female->male) gender characteristics. Ex: big feet, tall height, broad shoulders, etc.

The tutorial was nice, I do think it's somewhat great for beginners, but I do see a few problems I'd like to point out if you ever have time to fix it.
The male arms are not proportional... The upper arm is not the same size as your forearm, which throws off your arm length tremendously. Also, when the male is turned around, the left leg is shorter than the right.
I know this is based on the beauty standards of today, but also it'd be nice if you'd take out the "horrific gender-confused character". That's an insult to a lot of people, because a lot of women are very manly... and a lot of guys I know don't look like a steroid-abusing muscle-man like you showed.

You stereotyped their bodies a lot. I also see lots of anatomy mistakes. I'm no master, but I can see better than I can draw.

I found the man too muscular. Its actually kinda gross. And you didn't even show the female body, you got lazy and drew a swimsuit. The female body is also too skinny, and thin. You need to make your females me thicker, and curvy. If the male you drew didn't have bulging muscles, I think you couldn't tell the difference between the female and male, just for the fact that the Girl is so thin and generic. The man's legs look, wrong. Again, you need to add thickness, and depth. Some Curvature. Your Arms are too short. They look like their arms are 6 inches too short. Your anatomy is just plain, weird. I don't believe you can give 'tutorials' on body anatomy. It varies immensely, depending on what type of genre you're drawing; Anime, Realism, Cartoonist, Manga. At any rate, No matter the type of anatomy, This tutorial is wrong, in my opinion.

Hey, just gonna say that your tutorial is kind of rude in the sense that you use the term "horrific gender-confused character" to refer to people who don't fit your exact definition of "masculine" or "feminine". And a man built with circles is not "too" feminine, nor is a woman built with rectangles "too" masculine. You're being awfully close-minded here, and erasing/excluding people with nontraditional methods of gender or gender expression.
Just so you know.
Adding that to the fact that some women are really masculine and some men are really feminine, anatomically, and are still just women and men respectively, it'd be nice if you didn't treat that as a bad thing.

This is a nice tutorial and very helpful for beginners, but it's focusing too much into the 'ideal type'. I know it says above it's not realistic, but why those kind of characteristics like 'muscular arms'. Not all male characters have muscular arms. In terms of proportions is really ideal too, but it's shown pretty clear and it's easy to understand for a beginner. The rest of the 'characteristics' you show...they are too based on beauty standards.

It's easier to think of triangles or trapazoids than rectangles, and women as hourglasses when you're getting down to the basic, shapes, for the most part. Your male anatomy came out looking a little 'flattened' from the front and back, and the legs are very, very feminine. (Most men are not knockkneed, most women are. Avoid drawing men knock kneed for that reason 
Also, what is the flank? I've never seen that used on a human anatomy tutorial before...

I really love anatomy tuts, though for me personally this one is a little too binary. Still, just like body types, it's nice to see a variety of tuts on dA. So thank you.

Beginners need the most solid groundwork of all. the beginner mistakes we make at the start are often the ones hardest to shake... so being taught those mistakes as a truth is only harmful in the long run. Tuts are great and fine but for something like this there's no way better for beginners (and everyone) than observation of the real thing. I'm not a hater at all, I'm interested in the artistic growth of those who want to improve and against teaching horrible habits to people who won't know any better since they are, in fact, beginners.

Sure, so ignore this tutorial. But there are a lot of beginners that can make good use of this. They will get better and this tutorial will become useless to them in the future, but for now it's just right.

Eeeeeehhh this tutorial seems like it's promoting a ton of bad habits and narrow-paths in design and anatomy. I know you'll say you said it isn't meant to be realistic and that this is a tut for beginners, you said not all of this always applies, etc. etc. but it's still questionable in how much good it's doing vs. how much bad. A lot of beginners will take any advice you give them to heart, and sadly when you're giving shaky, unhelpful advice that can really set them back in their artistic growth. Furthermore your own anatomy is incredibly shaky and while you do, indeed, say that this isn't meant to be realism... you seem to be attempting to stay strictly within the realm of "the perfect balanced proportions".
I'm all for tutorials, but when it comes to anatomy and life, i think we should step away from tutorials and look at real people and the endless varieties of body types.

I'm glad some people agree! I'm not trying to be negative or a "hater", but I really feel bad for beginners that get really horrible "how-to" advice and have trouble shaking it in their careers (I think, except a few fortunate people, we've all been there).
It's also terribly detrimental to teach body types like this. It's like learning to draw from a barbie and ken.

Okay, so I know this is to show the differences in anatomy, but there are tiny anatomical issues here that bother me a little bit, Your arms are a little too short, your forearm to upper-arm ratio is uneven so that may be the cause of the problem, the males belly button is slightly high( can't tell on the girls, but maybe showing her stomach area and how the muscles are formed there may help some people, so instead of bathing suit style some might appreciate sports bra/ shorts ect.) And for the sake of generalality your male thighs are a little feminine, most boys I know/stocks seen/tutorials used/ general observation the thighs are stockier, the muscles sometimes show with a square like definition. Oh and on the back view of your male one leg is noticeably shorter than the other. Wow.. seems like I'm nitpicking at the guy... But just small stuff I noticed, I make the same mistakes sometimes as do professionals, ect, but I thought I might let you know before some one angrily rants at you again. Keep going though, this is great!!

I would say that the biggest differences to go over in the male and female bodies would be that females have wider hips, though the widths vary greatly from person to person, and fat tends to accumulate in different spots.
A lot of times skinnier individuals can be considered really androgynous because the things that this artist lists here as clear cut differences don't work that way in real life.
The vast majority of guys aren't anywhere near that ripped. Muscular is not a requirement in the male body any more than curvy is with the female.
I had a boyfriend whose hands were waaayyy thinner and more elegant than mine. He even had better nails than me.
I'm kind of nitpicking, yeah. I'm just bothered that this is presented as "this is how guys always look and this is how girls always look," as it would be more helpful to list actual observable differences that really do apply to all girls or boys.
It's been said before but it really can't be stressed enough, actual photo reference and drawing from life are the best ways to learn anatomy.

So just gonna say it, this is great if you are looking for stereotypes. So essentially, it's bull.
I personally know many men with small hands and rounder faces that are quite soft looking and comparatively women with bigger hands that are quite square.
Just because you have an x chromosome and not a y doesn't automatically mean you will look like this. There is such a wide spectrum of body types and many of them blur if not erase these "guidelines."

This tutorial is talking about the general differences. Generally, men WILL have larger, rougher hands and generally women WILL be smaller and rounder.
It's impossible to make a tutorial that teaches how to draw every. single. body type. The best thing to do is teach the general shape so the viewer can get a basic idea.

Actualy, females have 2 X chromosomes and males have one X and one Y. It says ideal, as in ideal for most people. And, face it, females usuay have female body types about 79% of the time and vice versa. The artist doing this isn't saying "this is what all girls look look like and this is what all guys look like." The artist probably worked a while on this and had good intentions. It certanly helped me.

This is not a tutorial on which is the "100% absolutely correct" way to draw a male or a female. This tutorial gives general anatomy differences between the two genders that most people would agree on. These are not stereotypes, these are generalized ideas endorsed by society. I, myself, don't even agree with some of them. HENCE WHY THE NOTE: IDEAL MALE OR FEMALE TRAIT (NOT ALWAYS TRUE)! Some people don't even read anymore.

Well, not to be mean or anything, but I'd say this is great for stylization but not as good for actual anatomy.
On a side note, wtf did you reference for that female hand!?! My girly dainty hand looks just like your male hand--yeah, I know everyone says that men have larger palms or wrists but the difference isn't that extreme... (personally I'd say you either made the fingers too long or omitted the curve of the palm--but hands are one of the big B****es to draw, so I don't have much right to complain there, especially if your focus is on already stylized art...)
