Description
"How in the heck?" Blake sniffed at the strange frozen substance on the tree. It smells like water, he thought to himself. He stuck his tongue out and touched the substance with it.
"Blake?"
Blake went to pull away but his tongue was stuck! It was ice, in the middle of summer, stuck to a tree.
"Ah wittle elp?"
He heard Havaros give a soft chuckle and a KERTHUNK as the gelding kicked the tree, knocking Blake's tongue loose.
Blake smacked his lips a few times to get the feeling back into his tongue. Once satisfied, he turned to the shire.
"Thanks, Ross."
"No problem, Blake. I actually wanted to talk to you."
Blake titled his head slightly, curious.
"What is it?"
"Well, you know how me and Serenity have been...er, acting lately?"
The Sabino thought for a moment. He did remember Ross leaving Jessi for a bit to cuddle with Serenity. And they had gotten awfully 'close' over the last couple of seasons.
"Yes. It's quite obvious how in love you two are, why?" Blake replied.
"We want a foal, Blake."
Blake was shocked.
"But you don't have any-"
"I know."
"So you guys can't-"
"I'm aware."
"Do you want me to-"
"Yes."
"With Serenity?"
"Yes, Blake."
"And you're okay with this?"
Havaros chuckled. "It was my suggestion, my friend. As much as I trust Alaric, and I do, he's got his hooves full at this time."
Havaros looked at their herd behind him.
Alaric was talking to the mares who were pregnant. All of them. His demeanor was calm, but Blake knew he was starting to get anxious, especially because Domino was talking so fast.
The new mares were watching the foals play with an armadillo and Blake watched as Magic sneezed. He looked up at the sky, watching for a moment, and noticed it was beginning to get dark. Then he looked back at Havaros.
"I'll do it."
"Thank you comrade. I appreciate it." And with that, the pair walked together back to the herd.

It was late. The middle of the night. Alaric shivered as he watched his herd sleep. It was cold for a summer night, and fog was rolling in rather quickly. Marik had yet to come back from patrol. He hoped the young stallion would return soon, he was getting antsy. And tired. Mesa Lou, usually quiet, had talked his ear off on foal names. Cleo wouldn't stop complaining about her pregnancy. Sadia was always quiet. Why was everything bothering him?
"Al?"
Al turned and saw Jessi, now sporting a baby bump, and smiled.
"Hello, dear Jessi. You look lovely tonight." He said smoothly.
Jessi blushed and looked away, smiling. She always was a shy one, almost never apart from her adopted brother, Havaros. Lately though, Ross was not around her as much. He was attached to Serenity. Young love. It was cute.
"Can I sleep with you tonight? It's awfully cold."
"Of course Jessi. We wouldn't want you getting sick." Alaric said softly, brushing his nose against hers.
The fog was getting thicker, Al noticed. As he thought that, Marik returned from patrol, out of breath and sweating.
"Bachelor herd...coming this way...I...came as fast as....I could."
Alaric scented the air. Marik was right. There was a lot of stallions coming. A lot. And they were close.
"Good work, Marik. Round everybody up. We need to stay close together tonight."

"That's a lot of stallions, Mama." Robin said to Storm.
Storm was nervous she had never seen a bachelor herd so big. It was a mass of horses a few canters away from the outer edge of the herd.
She watched as Marik and Alaric stood guard. The lead of the bachelor herd was watching them, with piercing blue eyes. He never took his eyes of of the herd, and Alaric never took his eyes off his.
Storm knew that Alaric wouldn't attack unless provoked. That was just the type of stallion Al was. She also knew that they had yet to get to their territory, so it was understandable that he was a little on edge. She looked at her friend, Earla, and saw her snuggling with her filly, Belle. The two were both smiling.
Robin's soft snores broke Storm out of her thoughts and she snuggled close to him, shutting her eyes, and slowly falling asleep.
The next morning, it was still chilly and Marik watched as the Bachelor herd moved out, the lead munching on an icicle.
