Kyna stole a glance at the couple behind her. They were mumbling to each other. She didn't know what they were saying and she didn't care. She had already made her decision many seasons ago, she reminisced as she walked into the night….

-Summer, Night-

"Are you still awake, dear?" Akira asked the younger mare.
Kyna sighed, "Unfortunately. I don't think Bailey loves me anymore."
Akira guffawed, "I think you're being insecure. He loves all of us. Except Koda. He tolerates that stallion. But, what makes you think that?"
Kyna flicked her ear at her. "He never talks to me. He also glares at me. A lot."
Akira stifled a laugh. "Kyna, dear, I hate to break it to you, but Bailey has a resting bitch face."
They took a minute to giggle with each other.
"Also, you have been avoiding him. Why don't you try talking to him about how you feel?"
"I think...I think I'm just going to leave."
"Come again?"
"I'm leaving the herd. Soon. I have no place here. I feel depressed all the time...and...and I feel it would just be easier if I left."
Akira scoffed and rolled her eyes. "Whatever. Good luck. You'll need it."
Akira stood up shakily, her legs were partially asleep and it hurt. The elderly mare walked over to Lola and lay down next to the brushy.

-Winter, Night-

"Are you going to talk to her?" Kiara asked. "I mean, I may not like her, but as the lead mare I have to care for all the other mares."
"I will in the morning...Ow! Kiara!" Bailey inhaled sharply as he felt her teeth yank on his mane.
"You will talk to her now."
Bailey grumbled. "Fine."
He got up, shaking the snow off of his hide, and purposely flicked Kiara in the face with his tail. She giggled in response, making him smirk. Bailey looked around. Where was Kyna?
He saw hoofprints in the snow and followed them, they had her scent.

Lola shifted as Indiana's unborn foal kicked her. Soon it will be born and hopefully it won't kick her as she slept anymore.
"Lola?"
Lola sighed. It seems she will not be sleeping very much tonight.
"Yes, Sabra?"
"I-I need to tell Bailey I'm going to have his foal. Should I do it tonight? Or tomorrow?"
Lola opened an eye and looked up at her. "First off, congrats. Second, do it in the morning. We're all sleeping."

Sabra sighed. She missed Pearl. Her filly, Sunrise Mist, was so cute, but she deemed Bailey as too violent and left in the Autumn.
-Meanwhile-
Bailey scented the air. He was close, her scent was strong here. At the treeline? Was she leaving his forest? He looked around and saw her staring at something in the clearing. He silently walked up next to her.
"Kyna. What the hell?"
"There's a mare being taken by humans over there."
"I-what?"
As he turned his gaze to the clearing, sure enough there was a mare, protecting a foal, with a rope around her neck. They were knee-deep in the lake that connected to the rest of the Valley. He let out a loud whinny and bolted to the rescue.
Kyna took this chance to leave undetected. He would come out of this okay. He would be fine.
-Back with the herd-
"Psst. Psst! Hey! Pretty lady!"
Honeycomb opened her eyes and yawned.
A stallion was standing in the shadows, staring at her warily. Once he realized she was awake he beckoned her by tossing his head and started walking further into the trees. She tilted her head, curious, and stood up to follow him….Koda watched them leave silently, it was her choice to leave with the stranger, right?
-Bailey-
"Back the fuck off! You! Take the colt and run! My herd is in the forest! Southeast! Find them!" He reared as the humans roped him, one by one. He saw the mare run with her foal in his herd's direction, and continued to fight. The humans talked in a strange tongue and make clicking noises at him as they led him away

"This one's strong! I can barely hold him!"
"We're only a couple miles away from the farm! Get him moving!"
"Could you guys be any louder? We gotta calm him down. Jeez look at all the scars..."

"Hey man, you like, gotta chill out bro." A human's gelding said to Bailey.
"Chill out? CHILL OUT?! I HAVE A HERD TO GET BACK TO, AND YOU WANT ME TO 'CHILL OUT'?!?!" Bailey screamed, letting out a harsh whinny as he bucked.
-With the herd-
"And you just let them go?! What kind of lieutenant are you?! What were you thinking?!" Kiara roared.
Koda took a step back, ears pinned against his head in fear. He could swear that this was no mare, but a lioness. He hated when she was like this, he always did.
"I..er...uh-"
"Uh? Uh, uh ,uh-enough! Get out of my sight! Now!"
"I-what..do you mean-?"
"I mean I'm kicking you out of the herd! Leave! Now!"
Koda nearly cowered as he said his next words, "But I didn't mean to! I didn't know he was stealing her!"
"Bullshit! Get out!" She reared at him, striking her hooves out at him.
Koda whirled around and sped away, Kiara hot on his heels. She gave him a hard bite on his haunches, nearly drawing blood, and skid to a stop when she heard an unfamiliar female voice.
"Please! Help! Somebody!"
Kiara ran towards the voice, nearly tripping over a lynx cub in the process, and saw a mare with striking blue eyes, frantically looking around, a colt cowering next to her.
"Are you lost?" She asked as she approached the mare.
"Are you in a herd? Is the stallion a red dun?"
Fear struck in Kiara's chest like a dagger as her eyes widened.
"That's Bailey! Where is he? What happened?"
"He's being captured by humans! Hurry! This way!"

The hers watched just outside the treeline as Bailey struggled against the ropes. He had yet to see them, and it was obvious that his strength was ebbing.
Kiara looked around at her herd. Her responsibility. She had kicked out the lieutenant the moment she needed him. She made a mistake. A big one. Sabra was sobbing into Indiana's shoulder. Songbird, as the mare became known as, and her son, Lance, looked on with worry.

-Humans-

The stallion let out a shrill whinny, looking in the direction from which he came. My first day volunteering at White Glass and I get this massive stallion in my grasp? I look in the direction he whinnied at and saw a decent sized herd. A gorgeous tobiano mare whinnied back at him. That's when everybody else noticed his herd.
"Those must be his mares!"
"They look pretty young, except for that one. I think we registered her already. Oop! Here she comes!"
The red roan slowly made her way down the hill. I've seen her before. She was registered as "Babe" a few years back. Looks like she found a new herd.
…
"Akira! What are you doing? Get back to the herd!" Bailey whinnied, terrified she would get captured too.
To his surprise, a human went to pat her head and she let her.
"These are good humans, Bailey. They won't harm us. Stop struggling and we'll be back to the forest in a jiffy."

Babe nuzzled the stallion and immediately he calmed down. He let out a sigh and a snort when I gently tugged at his rope, clicking my tongue. Babe bobbed her head a few times and snorted. That got the male moving, and the whole way to the farm was easier, not to mention, all of his mares followed us there.
