This is my entry for the "Newborn" contest over on Conceptart.org.
Y'know, I doubt i'll win the contest but to be honest its fine if I don't, its been so long since Ive been able to do a personal work and the topic was something I just couldnt resist.
Due to being short on time and inbetween assignments I knew I had to do something with lots of negative space.
Luckily the image-size requirements weren't hugenormous so I got down to it and busted this guy out.
Well..."busted out" for me is about 4 days, 8+hours a day -hee hee!
All done in Photoshop 7
Thanks so much for taking the time to shoot by my gallery.

Thanks Dakki.
Im still having a hard time fathoming how much joy she has brought to our lives, shes just pure sweetness and light.
Thats of course when she isnt being a stubborn irish mischief maker like her daddy!
Its ridiculous, she literally crinkles up her nose and starts giggling when she knows shes not supposed to be doing something and looks right as you as she continues doing it, lol!
I cant even say no with a straight face because im laughing so hard.
Anyway ill quit now becasue youve gone and made me start talking about my daughter, trust me: your going to start feeling like your trapped sitting next to "that old lady" on the plane talking about her gran-kids ALLLLLL the way to your destination.

Rofl, it's no problem. I remember my little brother's baby moments and those were adorable enough...I can only imagine when it's my own child what it'll be like.
I'm glad she makes you so happy, she's got a good daddy (and mommy, I'm assuming) who love her. A lot of people say kids ruin things, but this stands as proof of the love in a family, and I'm delighted to hear all about it.
So I must ask...has she picked up a crayon yet?

BradRigney In reply to dakki-dono [2009-07-09 07:12:11 +0000 UTC]
She has indeed.
She loves music so far the most, loves to dance.
She really really loves to look at books and be read to mostly though. She seems more fascinated with how things are built rather than what they do - always hunting and finding the screws and bolts that hold things together, or finding the tags on everything and talking to them, hee hee.

Lol, she sounds like a doll. Just make sure she doesn't take that crayon to a wall...or a screwdriver to the back of a computer now.
Not that you would let the latter happen, but yeah. x3
My art teacher (er..ex teacher now) is due sometime this month. I crocheted her a baby blanket before I graduated.

dakki-dono In reply to BradRigney [2009-07-09 20:18:53 +0000 UTC]
Yup! Then more art classes. xD I'm going to my local community college for two years to get my Gen eds out of the way. It's one of the best community schools in the country and so cheap. xP
Then I'm planning on transferring to MICA, or the Maryland Institute College of Art to get my Bachelor's in Illustration.
And taking plenty of digital painting classes! xD Hopefully I can land a good job after school with what I do by then. But that's 4 years from now, so I've got time.

That sounds so awesome. You sound like youve had a stable homelife and have all your ducks in a row, that is really going to serve you well. You sound so focused for someone so young and that is really inspriring to hear.
Im looking forward to hearing about it and what you learn and how you evolve, its going to be a great time for you.

Indeed, I can't wait. I realize that all these people only a year or so older than me are better because they took classes! I want to get better and learn all the tricks I don't know by self-taught methods. Hopefully I can get an edge in digital painting, too, even though I've already got some solid traditional skills under my belt.

Well if I can help at all just let me know, im always around if you want to compare notes. The learning never ends in art, its a matter of perseverence and practice to get better.
Most people dont want to hear that your going to have to devote a lot of time to this and your going to have to make sacrifices, the majority of which will be social and financial. Ask yourself the big questions: Am I willing and prepared to devote myself and am I really willing to make big, personal sacrifices for this.
After you get through that youll know where you stand and youll be ready to rumble.

dakki-dono In reply to BradRigney [2009-07-10 02:54:13 +0000 UTC]
I certainly will. I use newer photoshops, but if I ever need a guy who knows his way around 7, I know who to call.
Yeah, sacrifice sucks, but you know what, I can live with them. I don't get out much, let alone with friends as it is, and I'm pretty used to having no money. Art school will by no means be cheap or easy, but you know what, being a better artist and securing a better chance at a future in art is worth much more than partying and new clothes every week.
