Best viewed ( and intended to be viewed) using the "Sitback" feature in the main gallery in fullscreen mode, just hit the pause button to keep the image up.Viewing it on anything but a black background *really* washes it out.
This is my entry for the "Newborn" contest over on Conceptart.org.
Y'know, I doubt i'll win the contest but to be honest its fine if I don't, its been so long since Ive been able to do a personal work and the topic was something I just couldnt resist.
Due to being short on time and inbetween assignments I knew I had to do something with lots of negative space.
Luckily the image-size requirements weren't hugenormous so I got down to it and busted this guy out.
Well..."busted out" for me is about 4 days, 8+hours a day -hee hee!

Yeah, I like your work in general... it all has a certain level of quality but it seems like you turned it up a notch on this one and that larva or egg sack thing just added that bit of (not over the top) gross. Nice rendering on the veins and texture.

Thanks jami! im glad I didnt go over the top, I was hoping to just flirt with it, I find horror is more effective when there is something of the human in it, a way we can see ourselves. When its over the top and completely alien we cant connect as easily to it and then the impact and sense of horror is diminished, at least to me it is.

Yeah, I was wondering how you would pull off deadlines when some of your work took you over 100 hours to complete. I fall victim to that as well and sometimes end up making a few dollars an hour on a piece, then again it's what we would be doing anyway whether or not we were getting paid. You definitely haven't lost anything while speeding up and it gains some energy when the entire piece isn't hyper rendered, for example the window looks great with the painterly look to it! Wish I could look over your shoulder to see how you work. Best of luck in the contest!

Yeah, you know I really dont even feel like figuring up how much I make on some of my contracts, lol - im sure some of them end up being lik 75 cents a day, before taxes
But like you said: doing this is in our blood and we have to do it. My good friend said it best - "most of my heroes died unknown and penniless!"
Its our lot, but paying the price is nothing for those of us who must do it to stay sane.

1. You got some alien friends and they let you shoot some photos of them, then you post them

Hell, I usually go 9-10 a day for 6 days straight.
Ill take a break to eat, workout, play with my daughter and shower, stuff like that.
What can I say I love to draw, I spend as much time as possible doing it and hate to take time off.
