Description
Best viewed ( and intended to be viewed) using the "Sitback" feature in the main gallery in fullscreen mode, just hit the pause button to keep the image up.Viewing it on anything but a black background *really* washes it out.
This is my entry for the "Newborn" contest over on Conceptart.org.
Y'know, I doubt i'll win the contest but to be honest its fine if I don't, its been so long since Ive been able to do a personal work and the topic was something I just couldnt resist.
Due to being short on time and inbetween assignments I knew I had to do something with lots of negative space.
Luckily the image-size requirements weren't hugenormous so I got down to it and busted this guy out.
Well..."busted out" for me is about 4 days, 8+hours a day -hee hee!
All done in Photoshop 7
Thanks so much for taking the time to shoot by my gallery.

Everything you post is a lesson on "This is What Digital Art SHOULD Look Like".
Stunning skills and a steady and patient hand always seem to create something beyond the reach of the majority of artists on the planet. This is no exception. Purely from a viewer's angle it is another top notch effort on your part and an immediate fave.
My only complaint about you is that you don't post something 10-15 times a week

Very cool and creepy work and, yes, it looks much better on a black background! Here's another way to get that effect, btw, and a great ap for DA in general: [link]
Lets you fullscreen the pictures, zoom in and what-not, but happens to have a black background while you're doing it. Give it a try!

p.s the asexuality of the creature the lighting and the adition of moths all combine to make this subconsciously very threatening. especially the moths, i grew up in a butcher shop and moths are the only creature the stll spook the shit out of me! shit, i mean theyr made of dust!

BradRigney In reply to beigeape [2009-07-08 19:13:01 +0000 UTC]
Moths are creepy arent they?
There is something distincly laien about them, especially in catapillar form.
Im really happy you caught on to the asexuality thing, that was definately intended - im really pleased it had a subconscious effect for you, thats exactly what I shoot for!

heh man, this is deadly as usual, your sense of dramatic lighting as always is top notch. i doubt you will but a demo of your painting technique, your use of brushes and blending would be fucking awesome. im sure massive black will make you do one some day! till then have you checked out international portrait month? if you got some time it would be great to see some from you.
ps, i owe you a reply and will get to it soon. thanks for being humble enough to chat back, your one of the very few top guys who do. best of luck

Chatting back is the *least* I can do, this whole business of having people be interested in my art enough to want to talk to me is an absolute privilege, not an entitlement.
I dont consider my self a top guy but I really appreciate that im a top guy to you, it means a lot!
As for a tutorial: Im actually good buddies with el coro and he just asked me to do one recently. Normally I wouldnt, but since he asked im going to have to. Im just waiting on the how and when of it from him.
Thanks for your interest and feedback, it means a lot to me.

You would make a great Cinematographer for films....your lighting is always intriguing. I also love that you always seem to pick just the right moment of story whether physical all psychological to be the most effective.

Evan thanks so much!
This is a really serious compliment coming from someone who's worked with so many of the big-boys in hollywood on so many films, thank you so so much, this really made my day.
Id certainly love to take a crack at doing that one day. I gotta say that so much of how I visualize my ideas is *still* inspired and influenced by 80's Carpenter and early Ridley Scott.
You never know, maybe one day ill have a shot, but right now im very content to try and create my own movie stills in 2d.
Thanks for coming by and giving me your time!
