It's not the ones you leave behind - it's the ones you keep with you.

One of the things I really came to enjoy about the Amazing Spider-Man films is the ongoing sense of loss Peter has to experience. Even when their tragedies weren't his fault, or they happened before his time as Spider-Man, he sought to better himself through them. I think it presents a really key element of Spidey - that "great responsibility" does not go hand-in-hand with being responsible, but instead with taking responsibility. Whether he is to blame for Gwen's death or not is irrelevant - because it's not about him failing. It's not about how much he's screwed up.

To me, it's about him picking up his feet, and moving forward. It's about never stopping in spite of his perceived flaws. It's about catching the next one in time. Because that's his job.
