Description One of my favorites stories, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde! This piece was inspired by a quote from "Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical". I haven't watched it but I found the quote online from it and Hyde says "I'm what you face when you face in the mirror. Long as you live I will still be here."

So that's where the idea came from.

Great illustration. c:

I just read the story in my British Literature class, and I really enjoyed it. I didn't know there was a musical for the novella, so I'll have to check it out.

First of all, I like your color scheme. The res, brown and bluish tones work well together and are nicely blended. Hats off especially for doing that with watercolors, I never seem to be able to do so.
Your interpretation of the quote is very interesting, especially since the man in the mirror is so very different from the man looking at it and Jekyll (?) doesn't seem surprised at all.
The black lines you added as shading give the room a kind of "old" feeling, very much in character with Jekyll and Hyde's clothing.
I would have maybe put a little blue on the floor as well and maybe on the right side of Jekyll's clothing to give the whole piece a little more continuance but otherwise, great job!

That was definitely my intention, and I'm glad you think so. I need to read over the story again to refresh my memory, because I'd like to illustrate some more from it. Thanks for your comment!

You should listen to the songs, if you get a chance. The only version of the musical on DVD (as far as I know) has David Hasselhoff as Jekyll/Hyde, and it's just terrible. I'd recommend the '95 version of the musical, with Anthony Warlow, but really as long as it's not the Hoff you're doing alright XD

About the piece-- nice concept, and I like the lighting/colors on the walls. I almost wish their heights matched-- I know Hyde is supposed to be smaller, but even making Henry sit in a chair could fix that problem. I can tell you put a lot of effort into this, though

I'll have to look it up, thanks for the heads up

Thank you for the comment. I honestly don't like the execution of this piece too much. I just feel that it could be much better.. but I'm just beginning to illustrate and things of that nature, so any comment to help me improve is much appreciated.

No prob-- I'm lucky enough to own the CD, and I promote it wherever I can!

I understand-- and concepts like this are hard ones to pull off in a really stunningly artistic way. Angles and the set-up of the piece can really make or break it. I don't know if it'll help, but I think of it like placing a model or actor on a set, and then trying to film it-- I imagine myself moving all around the set-up, fiddling with things in the meantime, to 'see' what looks the most interesting. You learn as you go along, too I think you're off to a great start!

Thanks for the great words and feedback! I do try to think in a photographic sort of standpoint, but sometimes I get lost and just go for it >.< Thanks for the help again!
