Description
Not a subject matter I would normally do, but it was an assignment and I was satisfied with the result. A "bookcover" for the one of my favorite stories done on a textured piece of colored stock.Related content

I think I bought the paper at a local art store. You could try DickBlick online, that's probably where I got it in town.

Oh, isn't this neat! I love the cruel glint in Mr. Hyde's eyes.

Sure he is. He just threatened the poster boy with evil death if he didn't switch places with Hyde.

Ah, thanks. Yeah Hyde is definitely not a poster boy for nice.

Wow I did a search for Both Dr. Henry Jekyll and Mr. Edward Hyde because I loved the book growing up. It was the first 'big book' I read in 3rd grade. I fell in love with the book and was looking to see if this site had any good art work of either. However I couldn't find any decent ones, until yours! This is an incredible picture! And even that is a vast understatement. I mean you have the characters perfectly as I always pictured them to look. I must say instant fave and THANK YOU for having an outstanding drawing of characters from(in my opinion) the greatest story ever!

So glad you like it. I'd have to agree about being one of the greatest stories ever. The symbolism and the time period in which it was set has always made it a fave in my heart. Did you know that they made a musical about it? The musical cd is a great piece of work, and even though they have a video of the live version I extremely disliked it. Namely because for some reason they saw fit to cast David Hasselhoff in the lead role *gag*, instead of the original cast member.

Wow really? Not sure I could ever see the book(at least the one I grew up on) being a musical, ever.... Maybe I just was too into the book to picture the story being some flashy singing-filled dance-around musical. I must say I very much agree with the time period setting. I have always wished to be in the 19th century...or Very early 20th.

The texture definitely works in your favor - and the color scheme really worked out well! That burgundy/marroon base color really ties the picture together nicely.

Thank you. I always have reservation of using textured paper, but I'm glad it came out ok.

Great colours, they work so well on that rich coloured paper too. I love how the paper adds to the atmosphere in the darkness behind Mr H.

Thank you so much. I love working with colored paper. You get to have a base to start off with instead of the dreaded blank page staring back at you.

Oooh. Reminds me of the one illustration I did for Lord of the Flies in the same style. Alas the pic is long gone. This was... years ago in highschool.

Its a sad thing to lose artwork, of course it happens quite often to me. To bad, I would have loved to seen your interpretation of Lord of the Flies.

Thank you. All done in colored pencil. Some of it was done in a lighter touch, and some burnishing was used as well.

Thanks, nice to hear from another fan. I actually used to wear a pendant that said Jekyll on one side, and Hyde on the other.

I've never tried pastel on the scanner, all I can think of is what a lovely mess it would make on the screen.
