Notes: Orbiting Alpha Centauri A at a slightly closer distance than Earth does the Sun, Hibelos is a world that has been largely ignored by the galaxy at large. Possessing a climate similar to Earth during the Pleistocene, glaciers have spread across large parts of the northern hemisphere. Also similar to Earth in the distant past, sapient life has emerged in the last few million years in the form of the trichi. Inhabiting a continent located slightly above the planet’s equator, these small, furry, mammal-like creatures have recently entered the stone age, as well as having a small understanding in the control of fire. Some have developed primitive clothing, usually worn by what appear to be a pseudo-priestly class, who serve as the heads of their groups, as well as maintaining the proto-religion that has spread to several tribes. A team of asari scientists went to Hibelos to study these creatures. It was a long and tiring process, as the trichi very rarely let themselves be seen, preferring to come out at night. They’re also very cautious among unfamiliar races, which would explain how they managed to evade the attention of the former crew of the Manswell Expedition, a lost colony of humans that had departed for space in the year 2075, roughly 75 years before the discovery of the mass relays. It was this very colony that brought an abrupt end to the study of these timid creatures. Terrified of the strange aliens, members of the colony ended up taking one of the scientists hostage. The resulting battle ended up a trichi settlement, killing over a hundred in the process. It took a great effort on the part of the Systems Alliance to explain the situation to the colony, and when the situation was finally resolved, many of the trichi had retreated deeper into forests as a result of the armed conflict that had arisen. No longer just a cautious species, they were now set in actively avoiding any of the newcomers, making the already difficult study of them like finding a needle in a haystack.
Character Notes: Worke was one of the few members of his species to not immediately retreat from the observation of the asari. Though still cautious, he would occasionally approach some of the scientists, especially one who would feed him a strange food bar every now and then in an attempt to gain his trust. They quickly became his favorite, to the point where he began to believe that these strange, blue aliens might be the gods that they worshiped. Over time, he managed to convince a few trichi, though there were many who didn’t share his belief, namely the priestly-class. Some of the priests saw his radical beliefs as a danger to their way of life, believing the asari to be no different than the humans they lived in hiding from. Despite all of this, Worke’s faith wasn’t shaken. He continued going to the asari, careful to show the utmost reverence to them, and even brought some of trichi he’d managed to convince with him. He even tried making his case to the priests when they considered exiling him for blasphemy. However, this trial couldn’t have come at a worse time, as the first battle between the lost human colony and the asari resulted in the death of many trichi. In the aftermath of this, Worke lost many of his supporters and was exiled by the priests. Having nowhere else to go, Worke returned to the asari with an offering of a small mammal-like creature he’d killed for them. It took the scientists awhile to figure out that Worke had been exiled, but once they did, they allowed him a place to stay in their research station. However, Worke took this as proof that he’d gained their favor. This lead to further complications when he killed a rare species of Hibelos that the scientists had captured for further research, believing that it would showcase his devotion to them. After that, Worke was banned from several areas of the station, though the asari tried their best to not make him feel bad about the situation. As time passed, the asari found more tribes of trichi scattered across the planet, many of whom were just as skittish as Worke’s tribe. However, the scientists were able to use Worke as a way to approach them safely. Worke, believing that he was the representative of the gods, was more than happy to get up on his soapbox and preach. Several tribes were far more receptive to his message than his tribe had been, eventually reaching that point of the scientists receiving offerings, aka dead animals, outside their living quarters on a daily basis. They couldn’t complain though; in their mind, a few dead birds and rodents was a small price to pay for studying this fascinating species. When the study was over and the asari departed, Worke continued to preach their greatness, amassing a large army of various tribes in the process. After a few holy wars, this new religion had spread to many more tribes, and is still growing to this day, providing somewhat of a unified culture to the once scattered, tribal species. Even in the present day, where the trichi have spread across the galaxy, mostly due to stowing away on ships, many of their traditions from centuries back remain, with Worke still venerated as a prophet of the asari. Who knows how long it will take them to find out the truth of the matter?
