Description
The Imperial Guard relief force marched through the city gates with crowds of the native inhabitants looking on. But there was little cheering or celebrating. The grim-looking army was not the angels of salvation that the people had thought they would be. Rather, they were silent, lifeless beings that spared the people not even a single glance as they marched by. The peoples faces grew nearly as dreary as the soldiers masks as they realized that their saviors were not like angels, but more like walking corpses.
But through the crowd of bleak and cheerless faces, a bright and sunny one appeared.
'Why is everyone so afraid of them,' she thought, 'when they're here to save us? We should be thankful.'
She leaned over the side and reached out to the nearest passing soldier, holding one of the summer flowers she had gathered.
'These are for someone else, but you can have one.' she said cheerfully.
The soldier hesitated for a moment, looking at the gift being presented to him, then he moved back into formation. He didn't take it, but she was sure that he wanted to.
Her grandmother frantically pulled her back and began scolding her. She didn't listen, she just put the flower back with the rest and stepped back, her smile unchanged.

Well, I got here because some guys on a face book page called "Warhammer 40k quotes" shared this exact picture. I loved it enough to give it a comment. The story was great too, without being too sappy.

That as well but a commissar in a krieg regiment has to act as a moderator as kriegors would sacrifice themselves over a fucking penny if you could convince them it would help the god-emperor in even the most meager of ways.

But the imperial field manual states that solders are allowed to paint. attach. and create with there armor and weapons. so...he cant shoot him with out twenty more bullets in his own head.Β

That is an bad reason not to cheer for them.Β I mean really, what a dick move.
As for being like walking corpses, welcome to the Imperial Guard who've witnessed daemons tearing souls from their comrades and civilians turned into super zombies.Β Who've faced the chitinous tide of the Tyranids and the Orkish hordes.Β Welcome to the truth of war in the grim, darkness of the future.

Nah, even the Cadian guardsmen may be jaded as all hell, but these are Krieg. Their world once nearly fell to chaos, but was reclaimed. So to ensure they never fail again, like Cadians, they are soldiers from childhood, but they are also trained to be more robotic mentally then a Tech Priests is physically. Some guardsman charge out of bravery or emotion, some charge out of a sense of honour and a desire to help, the Krieg charge emotionlessly out of duty. The best fluff depicts them as is as having emotion, and loving the endless meat grinder that is their existence (I hesitate to say life), but so fucking stoic that to anyone else, they wouldn't know it.
For a more humorous description, see here: 1d4chan.org/wiki/Death_Korps_oβ¦
Here is a series of stories following a Kriegsman, and good damn if it doesn't to a good job of showing the mindset of their emotionless portrayls:Β i.imgur.com/esFMLb8.png
And here is a funny one that is probably the closest a Death Korps of Krieg member can have to a normal relationship:Β 1d4chan.org/wiki/Love_and_Krieβ¦

Seriously XD I read the comments and its kind of funny everyone these are not Krieg Soldiers the gas mask design is more towards the Armageddon Steel Legion. The Krieg soldiers are not the only group who wear gas masks the Steel Legion do as well because their planet is a hazardous ashen wasteland.

PokeyFluffytail In reply to SchmittLenin [2015-11-19 13:28:26 +0000 UTC]
Oh the irony in your comment. x3
Yes the Imperial Guard is good, but Space Marines are literally the best, seeing as how half of the Space Marine chapters (the other half being Chaos Marine) possess genes from the original 20 primarchs, who were all the sons of the Emperor, and they're straight up bred for war in so many ways it's headspinning.
There's a reason why they wear the massive armor, because they go where the Imperial Guard normally wouldn't go.

It actually depends on who is in charge, if the main officer is a krieger, marine malevolent or a few like them then yes, however, most imperial commanders have enough sense to avoid damaging the Emperor's assets, and evacuate the civilians whenever possible, as the point itself of deploying land troops instead of using orbital bombardment is to take back valuable resources to the Imperium (and this includes the population, no robots or AI for you), and commissars will actually flog and shoot troopers making trouble among the planetary population, for the obvious disciplinary reasons.
