I don't have a tablet, is it possible to do manips with computers?

I think you are confused between a graphic tablet and an iPad-style device. A graphics tablet is a plug-in device for your PC or Mac. It's just a touchscreen square/rectangle with a pen that allows you to draw on the computer more fluently than if you were to draw with a mouse.

How do you rub out with the eraser tool? I use it to get a clean cut, but I have to lassuo all round that? Or is taht ok?

I zoom in really close, erase round the edges, then use the lassoo to either copy out the horse or delete the background
