I really like this kind of experimentation. I'd love to see this worked into some more with heaviers blacks so the eye gets pushed through the surface more. Just a tad more definition and depth would add more punch.

Thank you for the feed back
Do mean something like more of a black outline around the white of the eye to give it more definition?

My bad phrasing, what I meant is, by adding more contrast/saturation to the piece as a whole, the 'viewer's eye' will be pushed into the blacks and will come forward with the whites, adding some dimension, and more ways for the eye to move across the surface. I think the piece feels a bit flat and could use more depth to really excite. Just a thought of course. Glad you asked!

I see what you mean, I think most of that would be fixed if I had a better photo, however it is a bit middle groundy (middle groundish? I know its not a word but you know what I mean) and the white reads too much like grey because of this lack contrast, and therefore doesn't have as much visual impact as it could.
Thank you so much for the constructive criticism though,

Hey! I so appreciate your questioning, clarifying, and not condemning me for actually giving specific advice. I just got a jab back from another artist complaining because I didn't give her a rosy 5 star review. That sucks.

No worries, you were offering constructive criticism which is one of the things this site is meant to be used for, and you didn't do it in an aggressive 'your art work is crap' kind of way. And otherwise, how would I ever improve any of my artwork if I don't get kind and valid criticism on the things that I could improve? There is a difference between being rude and mean to someone, and offering ways someone could improve on something.
And on a personal level I think it means you engaged with the art work in some way which is what I want people to do with my art work so i have no issues with that.

Thank you, honey. I really appreciate that. This other artist just couldn't imagine why I would give her piece a 2.5 for impact . . . I was writing a critique, right? Why would I 'critique' something I didn't like . . . was her response, then she explained to me that all opinions are subjective (in other words, 'fuck you'.) Just don't know what to make of that - asking for critiques then rejecting them. Bah, humbug. What she missed - you got, i.e.; that indeed I DID engage with her art . . . but that did not preclude looking at it from a different, less personal perspective. Thanks for writing back - this helps!

I mean can still love an art work while criticising aspects of it, right?Β Just like you can hate an artwork but still acknowledge that it is very skillfully done and perfectly executed but just not your cup of tea.Β
