Although I think this game is awesome, this was the one part that really ticked me off... And no, the fight in Other M is not the first encounter with Ridley, because the game takes place inbetween Super Metroid and Metrois Fusion, making it the second to last game chronologically. -_-USamus Aran and Ridley Β© Nintendo

I find it ridiculous how everyone criticized this and the writer said there was something wring with US, that it was just western audiences didn't know the full extent of Ridley and Samus' history and called everyone ignorant and uninformed for hating this. And he said it was important for Samus to have a PTSD moment while fighting him.
Look everyone and their dog knows what went down between these two, but when she's already (seemingly) killed him five or six times it's a little late for the PTSD, especially when you aren't actually fighting Ridley in Other M, YOUR FIGHTING A CLONE!

Not that I'm defending Other M, but I find this moment to be justified. Samus has killed Ridley twice at this point in the timeline, Prime 3 and Super Metroid. Add on the fact that she had recently lost Zebes, the planet she considered home, and she was probably a nervous wreck at this point.

There are actually a lot of beloved characters who face danger despite being scared out of their wits.  For example, Mrs. Brisby from The Secret of Nimh is very much scared throughout her journey to save her son Timmy, but she is more scared for Timmy than herself. www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAxrla⦠Coraline was scared of losing her soul to the Other Mother in the third act of her movie.  Even in Nintendo's history, Luigi pressed on anyway even though he was constantly scared during Luigi's Mansion.  So yes, the Cowardly Lion kind of character can be good when done right.
I feel safe in saying that Samus does not fit this mold based on her previous portrayals, and I haven't even played the Metroid games.

The poblem is that the scene where Samus has PSTD when she sees Ridley is from a manga in which she was 14 years old and it was her first mission. Also, it was the first time she saw Ridley in a long time since he killed her parents.
It's way out of place in Other M, when she had fought against him at least two times before.

As I told someone else before.......
Ridley coming back to face Samus makes him seem like an immortal stalker/nightmare. Not to mention the fact that he murdered her parents. It also seemed like the roar Ridley let out was somehow affecting Samus-as if it was a form of mind-rape or something-perhaps that's the cause of the freak-out? Although if I had written it, Samus would be more angry that scared-she would be more along the lines of the screaming Reb Brown meets evil Anakin from EPIII.

That's how Samus should of reacted in other M.

You cite Metroid Prime, which to Sakamoto, never happened. But as I said, I would have changed it so that the Prime games are obviously canon, and the only thing Samus feels when Ridley shows up is blinding rage. Not to mention that Malkovich would be the one trying to reach out to Samus while Samus is borderline psychotic and emotionally distant.

The Chozo Raised Samus after Ridley killed Her parents. They Trained her gave her her Armor and trained her how to fight.

IN METROID 2 THEY HIRED HER TO EXTERMINATE THE METROIDS ON SR388 BECAUSE SHE'S THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN HANDLE THEM AND ALSO BECAUSE THE CHOZO LIVED THEIR ASWELL MEENING SHE COULD HAVE AN ADVANTAGE.
IN SUPER METROID SHE DELIVERED THE INFANT METROID TO THE GF SO THAT IT WAS OUT OF SPACE PIRATE REACH, BUT NOPE, A REVIVED RIDLEY (whom samus once again didn't freak out at because she new he could) STEALS IT AND TAKES IT BACK TO ZEBES. A PLACE THAT ONCE AGAIN WAS SAMUS'S HOME. THIS TIME IT WAS JUST FOR REVENGE, FINISH OFF RIDLEY AND MOTHER BRAIN RETRIEVE THE INFANT METROID AND LEAVE.

Sakamoto takes over for Other M and Fusion.
Suddenly Samus was formally a part of the Galactic Federation? and the Chozo were never mentioned again.
Then Sakamoto has the gall to say Metroid Prime 1-3 isn't canon.
Honestly he thinks because he was give the ability to do metroid games he has the right to change things.

1. He Removes most of the Chozo's presence in the universe.
2. he adds Adam Malkovich. Which as I said is Sakamoto's Mary Sue Fan Character that Samus (WHO DOESN'T LIKE TO FOLLOW ORDERS WHICH SHE SAYS IN OTHER M) For some reason listens to him like an obediant pet. even though normally Samus from any point in the past wouldn't give a damn what he told her.

Other M Samus wasn't a wimp. Schizophrenic, sure, but she wasn't a wimp. She was even more brutally aggressive than she was before. Back then she just hung out in the back with her guns and power armor, but in Other M, she's executing brutal melee maneuvers and finishers, not to mention fought in a more agile manner. One moment she's scared to death of Ridley, the next moment she's wiping the floor with his ass. She's a schizo, yes, but for someone who's had that kind of a weird, shitty life, that's nothing new. Though I would have made her go berserk instead of scared of Ridley for seemingly killing Anthony, who was one of her old colleagues.
The Chozo aren't humans. As much as Samus would want to relate to them, she's not one of them. So naturally, the first male to be her authority figure would be the one she would see as a father-figure, although I would have made it so that Malkovich was worthy of that respect and made him more like Qui-Gon Jinn, who was very endearing to Anakin and at the very least rather frisk and friendly with Kenobi.
Sakamoto owns Metroid, so he fucks around with it because it's his franchise. But as for me, Prime 1-3 was canon, and I have my own story for Other M where Samus is a cold loner bordering on a psychopath and Malkovich is the one trying to reach out to her and make sure she's okay.Β

Sakamoto doesn't own Metroid, He didnt create it their for he has no right to change anything. He's changing things that should not be changed. And you cannot deny it.
And perhaps your right about other M but the presentation of is embarassingly poor. We didn't need Nightmare to be in this game. We didn't need a Metroid queen (which isn't even possible since the bottle ship is not sr388) one of the big things metroid was good at is telling a story without dialog, In other M THEIRS TO MUCH DIALOG SAMUS EXPLAINS EVERYTHING EVEN THINGS THAT WHERE JUST EXPLAINED. The point I'm trying to get across is Sakamoto is fucking up metroid. And Nintendo isn't noticing it. You can't tell me that I and several 1000 other metroid fans are over reacting.

All I can say is Nintendo Knows all to well that they have many fans of Metroid that did not like Other M. (I'd say the vast majority) Other M was a horribly planned game.
it had potential, It's trailer was awesome and looked amazing.
But Sakamoto did it all wrong, He completely based the game on Nostalgia and gave it a boring story.
Hell Samus wasn't even needed here.

LITERALLY ALL THIS GAME IS IS AN UNNECESSARY FILLER TO EXPLAIN RIDLEY'S BODY IN FUSION, ADAM DYING BUT WHO CARES (Sakamoto could of have Adam commanding the the squad distracting Ridley's ship in Zero mission while Samus snuck onto Zebes WHICH DID HAPPEN.) AND WHERE NIGHTMARE CAME FROM, WHICH WAS EVEN STUPIDER.
OH NIGHTMARE WAS BUILT ON THE BOTTLE SHIP THEN HIS PARTS WHERE BROUGHT TO THE STATION IN FUSION.
WHICH IS STUPID SINCE NIGHTMARE IS FULLY FUNCTIONAL IN FUSION BEFORE BECOMING AN X HOST.

Everyone else has made the argument for this scene, so I'm just gonna add a little extra. Almost every other time Samus faced Ridley in the series, she knew he was alive, having seen him at some point before the fight. In Prime, she was definitely surprised to see him in Meta form on the Orpheon, but now she knew that he could be rebuilt, and one of her goals on Tallon IV was chasing him down. In Prime 3, she encounters him again on the first planet, and to be honest, I think she was expecting him. She knows how tough he is and that a fall like that would hurt, but it wouldn't kill him. As such, she's not too surprised to run into Meta Ridley again, and I'm pretty sure she would have gladly bet on a Phazon enhanced Ridley being the Leviathan guardian for the Pirate Homeworld, so she was prepared for Omega Ridley. We never actually see the aftermath of what happened to Omega Ridley after his defeat, so I assume that the Phazon blast blew his armor off, but it regenerated what was still missing on his body, restoring his original form, which we see in Super Metroid. Samus knows full well Ridley's operational on that mission, and that time, she's determined to kill him off for good. When the planet blows up, I can say she did a good job of it, too. Samus has no idea what the life cycle of Ridley's species is like, so she doesn't realize what the larval form is until it's too late. Samus let her mentalΒ guard down, and because of that,Β seeing Ridley alive and well, despite having been blown apart and on an exploding planet, I can safely see that triggering a panic attack, and that goes back to the whole PTSD thing. I admit she probably should have drawn that conclusion after seeing the second form, but I didn't do that either on my first playthrough, so I can't bitch too much.Β

Alright, you know DAMN WELL that this is not how it happened. To put yourself in Samus' shoes, imagine you witnessing Kason Voorhees mutilating your friends and entire family when you were only six years old. Wouldn't seeing Jason come back (no matter how many times you've killed him) bring back those horrifying images? It actually adds depth to a character that's actually afraid of something.

See the problem is that Samus was already given the silent protaginist role. She let's her actions do the talking. I'm other she spends more time talking then kicking but.

Oh, I'm not saying Other M was good. All I'm saying is that I don't think she was giving the silent protagonist attitude because it ended so lazy and developing their main characters, they all seem like silent protagonist. I'm talking about Kirby , link, and Mario hardly ever speaks outside of saying his own name. Plus, if you have a hero that is actually terrified of their archnemesis for a horrible wrong done to them but still has the balls to take them on (figuratively speaking), then that actually makes the hero even more badass and adds mych more emotion to the story, which leads to better writing.

True I admit that.
But the problem is the fact that Samus had always had the Same Personality for Years. (30 now. by the way it sucks that once again Metroid isn't getting anything Good for it's birthday, I blame Kid Icarus.) Suddenly the Fully armored Badass that lets her gun do the talking gets a...Soft side....I don't like it and alot of other fans don't like it.
In trying to give Samus More Personality it's kinda made her not Samus anymore. Samus was like Link.
She represented the player in other words, YOU were the one saving the universe what you would say while playing the game is what she would say.

Giving her a Personality and her own dialoge (that is way to damn long and most of the time ruins the story) kinda ruins the Emersion into the game.
For example.
After Samus Beats the Kihunter king and see's Little birdy (Aka a Ridley) eating it's nest and it screeches at her.
We would think. "Oh so that little runt was the reason those things attacked me and the ones before" but before we can use our imagination to figure it out. Samus gives us a long winded boring explaination to us like we're a child.
I HATE GAMES THAT DO THAT THEY DON'T LET THE PLAYER FIGURE OUT WHAT HAPPENED.
Metroid has always been founded on the presence of a learning curve which supports multiple play throughs. Sakamoto took that away he made the game boring and no one wants to replay it because their's nothing to try different.
Super metroid was so open ended you could do anything in any order if you were good, which requires multiple playthroughs. That's why everyone loves Super metroid.
Other M is linier as fuck, you have to do things the game's way. it will lock doors behind you and the such.

He took away pretty much everything that made metroid great.
