You better hope they don't make a nest in your tree. Those suckers are hard to get out!

I love it - really like the graphic-like contrast in the image and background

Man, I wish I could paint like you. I have this picture in my head that would look brilliant in your style, but It'll probably never be realized; I simply don't have the time or, admittedly, skills. Sigh.

Lots of painting, and certainly (even more importantly) lots of prayers. The more I live my life for God, the more he blesses my work.

Your pieces remind me that there is really something special that you can only get with paint Beautiful colours and nicely stylised, especially the hair. The bees were a great idea!

The bees are a major conceptual element to the meaning behind the piece. Thank you for all the compliments. I never though I would enjoy painting, and just started about 8 months ago because something was calling me to it. I'm glad I gave it a try!

I was wondering what their significance was.. Would you be able to tell me the meaning of the piece? I dont mind if you'd rather not

bryancollins In reply to Simanion [2007-12-17 17:57:13 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm. I will tell you a bit about the meaning if you make a darn good stab at telling me what you really think it means.

Rightyo. I was thinking that it's about the inherent curiosity in people (or yourself) and how it can be dangerous. She's curious about the peculiar bees hanging from the tree and goes to check them out, but they present a potential danger with their stings being so prominent, and are shown as so in the painting. She's also a long way off the ground and on her own, which I think adds to the risk. I am slightly confused by her rather blank facial expression, but to me it is hinting that it is all not actually happening and is a metaphor. I was fearing that you'd ask me to do this Only because I'll probably embarrass you with some way off analysis.

You are actually very close on a few points. Notice that there are birds and bees. Now think of what that represents. She is alone (unwed) and reaching for the bees which have 'strings attached'. Her curiosity into sexual relations is going to sting, because she has not yet committed to love. Her blank expression is the emptiness she is left with upon experiencing this situation. Thank you for putting thought into the painting. It really means a lot to me that you did.

Ah, thanks so much for explaining! I really did not put the birds and bees together. I saw the birds and couldnt place them, so I thought they were just kind of decoration hehe. Fantastic concept, it really enriches my viewing of the work
