Description
Full title is "And That One Word Echoed Like A Fortress".36"x24" Acrylic on Canvas
I have been discussing spiritual warfare with friends lately. This piece is a reflection of the war between evil and hope, Satan and God. I will never try to paint God (for hopefully obvious reasons), so God is inside of the boy.
Feel free to message me with questions, not just comments. I discuss my faith with anyone.

To me, the boy looks more regretful than afraid. He seems to be deeply sad that he must destroy anything, even if it is evil.
But that's just my 5 cents. Amazing work, you really are a fantastic artist

Maybe the reason these bad guys are after him is because he did something that he now regrets?

God is really great.
He never lets down the people who trust in Him.
great piece, by the way.
love the colors,
and it's very expressive.
may God bless you on your mission to tell others about Him!
(just a really random thing i noticed: if God is really in the boy, then why is he sad? just a thought ΓΌ

Just because God is in us, doesn't mean we are never sad The Bible never promises us constant happiness.

yes, i know, but wouldn't a CONFIDENT look on his face do the job just as well?
anyway this is a really inspiring painting, bro.
God bless you!

It would do the job for confident people. See, art meets you where you are. That's when the viewer really relates to a piece is when it hits them in the same moment that they are experiencing. I have a friend who is really struggling right now, and he was a great deal of inspiration for this piece. It needed to meet him where he is, so he can relate. Sometimes people NEED to know that others are going through similar times. Jesus WAS God and even experienced a time of weeping. Thanks again for all the compliments.

That's really amazing. And the colors are so dynamic. And then, so is the message.

It just means that sometimes I feel like a small child against an army of huge, bloodthirsty demons. But, when I remember that God is the power within me, I defeat them all! Welcome!

Hmmm...
Well, nasty criticism first... I didn't feel the spooky, scary, "stomp them before they stomp us" vibe that I'd associate with facing demons that want to ravage a child's soul and drag it off screaming to h**l. Sure, the blue horned roaring monster front and center looks plenty mean, but they all seem too colorful and bright. The eye things look like they belong in a Japanese video game. If my painting skills were existent at all, let alone your caliber quality, I'd have gone for darker, grayer, muddier, dirtier tones, like something that came out of a pit of fire and brimstone, not from a Saturday morning cartoon or a children's educational program.
(Well, if you'd made the enemy Teletubbies... that would've rocked. THOSE things need stakes hammered through their hearts. Ewghgh.)
Okay, the child... the lad looks like he's about to be scolded by his mom, dad, or school principal, not like he's gonna be fighting for his life and eternal soul. I was hoping for a mix of nervousness and fear, and yet willingness to lock his legs and trust that God was going to get him through somehow. C'mon, at least have him hold his head up! He's on the Almighty's side!
Also, I read you loud and clear that trying to show the Most High Yahweh just won't cut it, let alone preserve the Second Commandment. Good point. But I was hoping for a bit more to show that this kid has Someone Stronger on his side... maybe a sparkle of the bow or arrow's reflection? Or a lens flare? Or something? Something that gives an inkling these nasties are gonna get buttstomped?
Okay, that's the bad news. The good news is, you've definitely got the tones, textures, shading, and variety of colors down pat. I like what you did with the grass and earth, and what someone said about how you did the sky (fresh, cool, breezy, inviting royal purple skies over the boy; dirty, brownish, noxious-cloud/Hong-Kong-pollution/who's-been eating-deviled-eggs?! ugly atmosphere for the demons) hit the bullseye.
And you've definitely have a good hand in piecing the forms together.
In short, while I would've done things differently, your painting is a good work. You've got skills, and a willing heart. And the painting's in praise to the Most High, so I'm sure He's quite pleased.
Nice job, and keep 'em coming.

I totally understand where you are coming from. If you look at all of my other work, though, it would be very out of my style to do something dark or morbid on the demons' side. My work appeals to children and that is not something that I am ashamed of. I am actually illustrating a children's book right now, so I am just working in the style that I am trying to establish. With the boy, he looks worried for a reason. Are we, as Christians, alway bold and confident, even with God on our side. He has only one arrow and so many enemies. He has the power of God in him, but that does not mean he is without doubt. He is human, after all. The eyeballs were intended to lighten it all up with a fun atmosphere, so as not to make the message too heavy for anyone who may be just entering Faith, or who may not be there at all. The audience is broad, and I want the message to reach everyone possible. Thanks for the input, and thanks for taking the time to check it out and respond. Be blessed!

Well, true enough... we're made in God's image!
Still, that's an interesting concept... a servent of God standing firm against the evil forces. All he needs now is the spiritual armour of Ephesians!

Why the eyes on Satan's side?
Good statement about how one small person can make a difference fighting evil by having god inside of him it shows god touches all his children. I really like that.
I really like the sky change above the evil and the good sides really cool breeze against stagnant heat.
I don't know about the whole religious warfare thing, not to sound like a hippy because being a political science major I know war is an unavoidable event but to fight it over religion that should be spread, shared and debated with words wisdom and love seems like a bad reason. I believe wars should be fought over territory, resources, and against oppresive governments; tactical things not philosophical things.
