Description Full title is "And That One Word Echoed Like A Fortress".
36"x24" Acrylic on Canvas

I have been discussing spiritual warfare with friends lately. This piece is a reflection of the war between evil and hope, Satan and God. I will never try to paint God (for hopefully obvious reasons), so God is inside of the boy.

Feel free to message me with questions, not just comments. I discuss my faith with anyone.

Spiritual warfare refers the the war that demons and angels fight over us daily. It is not a war in the physical world, but in the eternal world. The Bible tells us that there is a constant battle over our souls.

Ephesians 6:12 "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places]."

The eyes are on Satan's side because he is always watching, like a lion ready to devour us.

1 Peter 5:8 "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour."

Isn't god always watching as well?
Not as a lion but as a sheppard.

Thanks for clarifing the warfare part, that makes a lot more sense now and makes the painting that much better. Young man reporting for good duty

Yes, He is, but this piece is about the evil that constantly surrounds us. I could have done it a million different ways, but as I began to draw it, this is just what came out. I felt that my mission was to expose the devil's schemes in this one.

I wonder where his arrow will be aimed??

Its really awesome btw that you take the time to answer all of the questions from us!

That one was retorical too. I really like the painting too came out really amazing and has so many questions and possible answers a reflection of life truely.

Even at rhetorical, I will still mention that I purposely gave him only one arrow. He could have had a whole quiver full of them, but one makes him have to analyze his situation more in depth. Sometimes we only get one shot!

He looks scared enough to debate using his one shot on himself, but I think he'll persevere.

Amazing as always, and I like the story behind the painting.

Also, I like the way you solved the problem of not painting god himself, as I think you did this for religious reasons?

Very nice painting indeed ^^

I don't know if it was so much about religious reasons, as much as "How can I paint God?" How can the created create the creator?

Very true indeed, and I guess it is better not to. But I still like how you solved the 'roblem'.

And I think god couldn't be painted anyway, because it's a undefinable thing

Still like the painting allot, and the idea behind the whole picture, everything just fits, as usual. ^^

Why won't you paint God? And I ask this in all seriousness. I've recently thought about this a bit and I also feel like it would be wrong to try to depict God, but I'm not quite sure why I feel that way.

Anyways, I'm interested to hear your opinion on the matter and maybe you can help me out a bit. Thanks

I feel that no matter how I paint God, I will be reducing His majesty and His perfection. No one has ever seen the face of God. When Moses saw the back side of God, his hair became gray and he aged years in that moment. God should always be exactly what He is; Too powerful, too amazing to be depicted in the physical restraints of human nature.

Hm, I definitely agree with that. How do you feel about painting Jesus?

bryancollins In reply to Rantul [2007-11-05 16:45:11 +0000 UTC]

As long as people paint Jesus the way the Bible describes Him, I am fine with that. I have drawn Jesus a few times. Some artists just tend to make Him look majestic and handsome, when the Bible says he was plain or even unattractive. He was not a male model!

Rantul In reply to bryancollins [2007-11-05 16:50:42 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I agree there. If I ever portray Jesus I try to show him as a normal looking carpenter man. I think the whole feminine white guy thing is stupid, and I definitely don't agree with halo's as they are borrowed from a pagan religion and have nothing to do with Biblical truth.

I guess portraying him as a "male mode" would be okay, to an extent, if you were showing him during the transfiguration or in his assent to heaven or something like that. I dunno, just a thought.

bryancollins In reply to Rantul [2007-11-05 21:31:10 +0000 UTC]

Good thoughts. I see where there could be symbolism with the his appearance after crucifixion. I never heard the thing about halos. I'll have to research that. But I do agree that Jesus looks a bit silly as a white man. Even if He had been white, all that time outdoors in the desert would have darkened Him up quite a bit!

Rantul In reply to bryancollins [2007-11-05 21:49:58 +0000 UTC]

Halo's were a borrowed symbolism from the (Roman?) sun god Sol, I believe his name was. From what little I understand, it had to do with the Roman tradition of mixing deities.

Wow. My job about dropped...and even more so when I read the description. I got that feeling looking at that the little boy is hope (as you said, but that was before I read ) I love how the battle isn't just the devil but a set of "monsters" that rep. evil.
Very amazing. you blow me away with your talent.

So what are your views on this war we wage everyday?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

bryancollins In reply to baremywords [2007-11-02 19:40:11 +0000 UTC]

The war is already won, but we must still make it through the battles. Christ has paid our price, but now Satan wants to make us suffer because of it. Creating this painting has blessed me in my own spiritual struggles. I hope that is does the same for others.
