Description

Next up in my series of Olympians from the TWverse is Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt, Wilderness, Wild Animals, and the Moon.

Along with her brother Apollo, Artemis becomes a secondary villainous threat from Olympus, albiet in a much different manner than Hera. While Hera's threat to Thunder Woman is a bit more direct, the duet do not have a beef with Samantha as such. However, they do have nefarious plans that conflict with Samantha, so she is all but guaranteed to be an adversary to them.

Much like the rest of the Olympians, Artemis has changed due to the span of time and isolation from Earth and humanity. She has increasingly embraced the wild, predatory aspect of the wild animals symbolizes, and her aspect as a hunting goddess has shifted ever so slightly from that of a human hunter to a more savage, feral aspect. Artemis is a sadistic killer now, even moreso than Ares, and revels in bloodshed. Indeed, she has fallen so far from what she originally embodied that she no longer abides by her vow of chastity. She is wildly uninhibited in a dangerous way, yet she has eyes only for her own brother.

Artemis is also the patron goddess and creator of the vampire race via Ambrosius Aurelius, the Roman adventurer transformed through his encounters with her, Hades, and Apollo into the progenitor vampire. And through him, she and Apollo have worked to create a magical working on a cosmic scale, one designed to draw Olympus back into Earth. Much like Hera, Artemis and Apollo have designs on their old home world. But whereas Hera would essentially dominate the Earth as the head of a new pantheon, they intend to turn it into a playground for them to revel in. On Artemis' part, she seeks to roam free across the planet, hunting any and all things and killing without cause, concern, reason, or limit, all while at head of a kind of wild hunt of ferocious predators and creatures loyal to her.

Thus, Thunder Woman finds herself embroiled in the ancient schemes of the father of vampires and the events directly driving the Age of Aquarius that has been at the heart of so much paranormal events in the modern era, including her own. Her only hope of stopping these two may lie with her greatest adversary, who stands to lose just as much should the twin gods manage to dethrone Zeus and accomplish a permanent conjunction of Earth and Olympus according to their design...
