Description
Rounding up this set of Olympian deities is one of the most renowned and versatile of them all, the God of Prophecy, Plagues and Disease, Healing, Music, Light, Archery, and Youth: Apollo!
Along with his twin sister Artemis, Apollo forms a second villainous threat for Thunder Woman from Olympus, distinct from that of Hera. While much of Hera's villainy is directly targeted at Samantha, Apollo and Artemis have a grander, more broad plan of villainy that nonetheless still involves Thunder Woman having to oppose them.
Just as Artemis has changed significantly due to the passage of millennia and isolation from Earth, so too has Apollo. Once perhaps the pinnacle of virtue as an Olympian, to the point where he was worshiped as a defender against evil, Apollo has taken a darker turn at odds with what he might be remembered as. His aspect as a protector has waned while his more destructive aspects have increased considerably, to the point where he can barely be considered a healer as he once was. His music is similarly twisted and dark, lacking its famed beauty. Where once he was an ordered, lawful god, now he is much more destructive and wrathful in a manner that puts him closer to Dionysus and Poseidon than Zeus and Athena.
But the thing that has truly put Apollo on this path of darkness has been his status as a god of oracles and prophecy. He has seen a vision of him and his father Zeus locked in combat, son against father in a manner just like how Zeus strove against his father Cronus, and how Cronus went against his own father Ouranos. Apollo believes that he is destined to rule Olympus, and that to do so he must slay his father and continue the cycle of bloodshed that has defined the rulers of the gods.
However, much like Hera he too desires to rule Earth, and so when Olympus and the realms of the other pagan pantheons were torn away from Earth and cast into their own separate dimensions in the greater depths of reality, he found his plans foiled. His gift of prophecy had failed him here. But there was a solution; while he was not a direct patron, Apollo had contributed to the creation of the vampire race via the curse he had inflicted upon Ambrosius Aurelius, the man who became the father of vampire kind, and so through him Artemis and Apollo had a loyal and faithful follower who would strive to aid them in returning Olympus back to Earth. In turn, they too have spent their time on Olympus working to bring it back to Earth and merge the two realms together, aiding their minions' vast magical working from across the gulf of ancient, empty reality.
The end result would not be pretty, however. Artemis and Apollo care little for bringing Olympus and Earth together in a gentle, seamless merging. What they intend on accomplishing would be a more catastrophic, almost apocalyptic event that would cast both realms into chaos. And that is just the way they would like it. To Apollo, it would make an appropriate setting for his slaying of Zeus and bringing the Earth to heel under the rule of him and Artemis, king and queen and lovers.
It is only within recent times, as the Age of Aquarius commences and the realms cast away from Earth return that Apollo and Artemis are able to personally play a hand in advancing their plan. Until then they are forced to remain shadowy masterminds guiding their servants on Earth from Olympus, Thunder Woman not yet understanding what she is truly up against just yet...and perhaps by the time she realizes it, it may be too late for her to do anything to prevent it, as the permanent conjunction of Olympus and Earth is going to happen. It's just a matter of how, and that distinction will be key to her stopping Apollo and Artemis and saving both Earth and Olympus from ruin...
Anyway, hope you all like him! That's it for now, but stay tuned for more stuff coming down the pipeline! Got a new update for a major TW villain, plus some other stuff I've been working on.
