Description A sketch page compilation sourced from a sketch book of mine dating to 2006. These are all original designs for homes, and possibly other village buildings like taverns and shops. I was designing my first real set of home plans that year for a builder. By 2007, the first of several homes were built. I am self-taught, so these types of sketches served as a dictionary of ideas for me for exterior design. Obviously, I haven't strayed much from my roots.

Everybody who designs anything should draw every day with a pencil! Keep an actual sketchbook. It's permanent and always great to pick it up from time to time and see how you have progressed or look for old ideas that are still viable. And don't call your sketch pages a "sketch dump!!!" That sounds negative! It's not a dump. Or a trash can. It's a collection or compilation!! ...Have a beautiful day!!

Your designs have such feeling. When I take over the world/win a megabillion lottery, you shall be my court architect!

You are extremely good at doing buildings! WAY better than I am. Actually, I really suck at doing buildings... perhaps I could learn a thing or two from you.

Practice practice, and draw old buildings first before you try to design NEW old buildings he he...

I was quite surprised not to see a single one water mill... I think they'd totally fit those houses... which look incredible by the way. Would love to stop by there

I looked at old drawings a lot, 19th century and early 20th century, when I was figuring out how I wanted the drawings to look, many years ago...

OHHHHH we stayed near Shelton at the Hampton, visited Shelton and three in Elkin. Sunday walked Old Salem. Weather was terrible, white wine was bad, reds win this time!

Aww, these are so lovely - if I had all the money I need to REALLY choose a house to live in - THIS is what exactly I would want to have! I think the last one is my favourite... In fact I didn'T give THAT much thought of where I could live, it just didn't seem so significant - whatever is fine as long as I have me beloved ones with me and I can have a little place for my artistic needs. Really I can just fill whatever place I am given (we moved wuite a lot during my life). But seeing your sketches I seem to develope a dream.. that one day I could have a house like this. At a really nice place (preferaibly close to a forest).
Allright, sorry for the ramble, but I wanted to tell you just how strangely inspiring your houses are. Keep it up!
Also, I agree with you - I really REALLY love sketching with pencil (or ballpointpen) and love my sketchbooks a LOT. ^_^

OHHHHH why next to a forest?

Netheb In reply to Built4ever [2012-10-20 11:31:04 +0000 UTC]

Usually forests are most enchanting, a calm and peaceful place And I guess this is the feeling your drawings carry

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Built4ever In reply to Netheb [2012-10-20 16:16:55 +0000 UTC]

Nice trees, like old oaks, are spirit trees. They nurture and protect, home to critters and bugs, umbrella for the forest (or neighborhood,) create topsoil, and look fantastic. I love old trees.

AnticiaJK In reply to Built4ever [2012-10-16 13:57:03 +0000 UTC]

Ah, because I LOVE forests - so refreshing. Trees does really good to my mood (and to my lung as well).

Built4ever In reply to AnticiaJK [2012-10-16 14:20:21 +0000 UTC]

Which is why I take hikes in the woods around here...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AnticiaJK In reply to Built4ever [2012-10-17 07:02:39 +0000 UTC]

Aw that sounds neat! I don't have forests around in a long range.
And our parks suck. But we have some neat graveyards. Those are better places than our parks: more tree, not noisy and no litter, broken glasses everywhere...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Built4ever In reply to AnticiaJK [2012-10-17 20:42:04 +0000 UTC]

Graveyards don't spook me either. Pleasant places.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AnticiaJK In reply to Built4ever [2012-10-22 17:05:10 +0000 UTC]

I see...
I wonder what kind of graveyards those are.. You are American, right? The cemetaries I heard about or saw in movies seemed to be different fo what we have hear. Then again in the Tim Burton movies they do look similar to ours with all the statues and all. Just not so spooky. ^^
So I think of sth like this when it comes to the US: [link] Is that right as a general image or incorrect? I wonder.. o.o
We have similars too, but mostly it is more like this: [link] Just not always with such big statues.

Built4ever In reply to AnticiaJK [2012-10-23 00:53:01 +0000 UTC]

OHHH yes we have the more elaborate ones, especially in New Orleans, Savannah, older places. The first one is just a military graveyard. I saw one like that in San Fran. The graveyards in New Orleans are legendary, very beautiful...

AnticiaJK In reply to Built4ever [2012-10-24 15:54:13 +0000 UTC]

Oooh, I see! Then I'll take a note to myself to find some of those whenever i manage to get in the US. I'm sure I'll eventually will! :3
