A (QUICK) PICTURE OF THE PECULIAR NICKLEBY "BLUDGER" PACKARD POSSUM:
This is "Bludger"... or at least to Buck A. Roo, who lives in the an unused chimney up in Buck A. Roo's rooftop. (ABOVE: His rather well-made, make-shift chimney apartment). His real name is Nickleby Packard Possum; apricot red tie, peachy nose, ivory fur, icy blue eyes, and with two little buck teeth at the front. Currently wearing dollar bill green overalls, and a nice, complimentary beige with mango yellow. His name is a reference to his favourite book: Charles Dicken's "Nicholas Nickleby" (which kinda relates to him). Is not actually rich-- rather 'lucky'. Previously a chimney sweeper, an odd strike of fate had him plummeting straight down Buck's chimney, almost like a present from Santa. His rather reclusive previous job makes him well known with the other poorer members of the town he lives in, with the rest. Now works with Buck at the 'Local Press' (journalism; news), though his poor grammar keeps Buck eyeing on him... a lot. Speaks lots of 50s slang. Can use modern slang, too.
Does this remind you of "The Royal Tenenbaums", in any way...?

SUB-TEXT/SYMBOLISM OF THIS PICTURE, AND NOTES + ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:
Wanted to toss this away, actually; line-art was so messy, and colors were really unrelated. Thought it was just some experiment for a new art style.
...Then I just realised there's lots of meaning to it, and a message-- just had to re-work it is all.

Originally just supposed to be showing a re-design of "Bludger" . That previous color scheme is atrocious-- didn't calibrate my monitor back then-- and didn't look anything like a possum! ...Well here's it's been worked on. But anywhoo, then there came this idea of mixing decadence, and vanity with a humble, and simplistic looking setting... which kinda reminds me of Die Antwoord's music video, Def Side"/"Beat Boy" . Actually got the idea from listening to some Lana Del Rey, and JAY-Z's "Watch The Throne" album. NOTE comma there. Design-wise, he's now a separate, entity from Crawford "Howell" Wolf, and Buck A. Roo.

The neatly-framed composition, taking place in a box-like frame, is reminiscent to vanitas, and portraiture. Storywise, it's like Buck A. Roo's ideals, and previous lifestyle are seeping into Bludger's own space. The baseball bat seems to have something to it, other than for Bludger to play baseball with, or (threaten to) smack someone, in case they break into his house 'cause he's a softie.

The name of this art, or 'portraiture' of Bludger, refers to his location, up in a rooftop, and also refers to his position-- literally high in the sky (or at least higher than others in the ground). The rooftop visible in the window (and the only thing visible, along with another chimney, and the clouds) makes reference to this in the art.

, you have my thanks and respect. Thanks for trying to watch anyway, especially when you were really busy with your own stuff. These guys-- not just great artists, but great pals, too. Check 'em out.

DIGGIN' IT LIKE AN "X" MARKS THE SPOT? :0
Oh goodness, Cambutt, I do wonder what's it you dig 'bout the style, I do, I do, I do.
I know-- it's the class as (second-hand) outfit he fits. No, no... it must be the fact this pic's composed in neatly fit boxes, while fitting in a box itself...?
Aha! The candy colors with the strong outline-- everyone's going for that.
...

I dunno actually. Haha, you are full of surprises, you butt. c:

$WAG? Yo, that's class, man. Ain't no $WAGgard; he's got that tie. $WAGgards ain't got none 'a that style... low-ridin' their grandma's track-pants all day, errday. He's class... and adorable? Huh. Another for the other. (Checklist-- ticked!)

Yo, like they say-- best things in life ain't free, man; which is where this guy gets upper-hand.

More like... SECOND-HAND (OOOH!): Thrift shops! 'Specially that Goodwill down the road. That possum's been poppin tags; awesome possum. Surprised no one cared to take a detour, and stop by? YOLO. Shout out to all you second-hand shoppin' folks out there, errwhere!
#CLASS

Some of those are actually made outta fabric around him: ie curtains, and table cloths. He doesn't have much cash, so he's really good at makeshift stuff, and knowing best bargain. Yep. Gotta think smart with your stash.

Marsupial-- how many more possum-y conventions do I need to prevent that happening!? 0:

Yo, man; not all possums have facial masks. Some as white as sour cream, and ivory vanilla, man. Dat muzzle, and pink snout ain't even rodent. Plus, he got that white tipped ear. Which rodent got that?

Yo, to all misunderstood marsupials-- this one, 'specially to you possums out there, too-- this one here's out for YOU! Don't let 'em tell who YOU are, YOU tell them.. like this one guy, right here! VIVA LA VIDA!!

BTW, here's two white/ivory-furred possum pics to back my case up: [link] [link]

LOL; regardless of where possums come from, this is just like that one case from MEAN GIRLS ('cause of pre-assumptions):
"So if you're from Africa... then why are you white?

Trouble we don't get possums here for me to learn more about them...
They're cute, though!

This guy is so cute, like pretty much most of your drawings.
I mean, the clothes he's wearing and the cap look pretty cool. But his little feet and face, that's what gets me. And I like opossums too

A merit for your comment; 1500G -- from you, and for once, I hear something... INSIGHTFUL; with personal pros, and cons, which people seem to avoid saying. But really, it's very helpful to the person who receives it, and does good for the person saying it since it lets the other person know what he/she thinks, right...?

YO, thanks for the comment! Hey, just got one thing to say-- when you say "that's what gets me", do you mean it, like "it gets me (my attention) because I like it"?, or as in, "it gets me (my nerves) because opossums don't have (point out features that possums lack; or at least to you)"?

Anywhoo, I'd like to point out to others, and you (just in case) that not all possums need facial/fur masks, or marks. Some are completely white, or ivory-furred, with very pink paws, yet they're not even albino.

Take caution on ambiguity in meaning; and here's another thanks, if you do! C:

man even more amazing with higher resolution, and the details in the background very much remind me of the old styled cartoons, can still hear the silly music matching the randomness of a good old cartoon but it also has the new modern feel, this unique style you developed is very eye catching, kinda imagine the image moving into a cartoon episode~!

burgeroo In reply to valdo-wolf [2013-04-22 21:38:41 +0000 UTC]

I hope you read that 'detailed description' (BTW, nice; and quite possibly unintentional; alliteration)! Personality is the definition of character, not just his/her looks. I love it when certain events, or parts of their own stories/lives add to their own, or new quirks. It makes it reasonable, and-- if done right-- even funnier! c:

Hope you get, or got something outta my works, or my writing/stories.

It's good to see artists who are concerned out writing a bit more about the character and the whole pic itself. I've been just drawing totally randomly so I really can't describe better my stuff D:

For the record, I think colours are the best part of your gallery.
