It's true, you could be the best photographer in the WORLD, but if you don't have visuals like this to work with, you can't get interesting shots...

You'd think so, but then there are photographers like William Eggleston , who take the banal, mid-west US and turn it into beautiful photographs.

If he can turn the boring mid-west into art, then anything location can be photographed beautifully. Of course, I'm not saying I could. I'm cheating. But I'm not a master photographer like Eggleston and others.

I will check out his work, cos where i live it's boring, i hope he's not a portrait photographer, that's easy to work with.

He's not. His subject matter is just regular stuff you find on the street.

Ah yes, you're a follower of a certain time period, just like the sheeple of Vivian Maier. I can guarantee you that there would be no interest in those photographer's work if they were current pictures of today. It's a nostalgic effect of the brain to admire looks of the past. Take for example your work. With its amazing light visuals, and high rise buildings, but go take ordinary pics of people in current fashion, and current cars, gas stations, diners etc, it won't be favored as much NOW as it will be in 15-20 years because it will look "classic".

Maybe, but Eggeleston's work was popular shortly after it was created: in the 1970s. (For the record, I'm not a fan of Vivian Maier's work.) Anyway, I get what you're saying, but there is lots of great work made from regular old stuff. Street photography is all about that (and that's a big part of what I do, though you may not care for those photos). Here is a contemporary example: Matt Stuart

His photos are example what you describe, contemporary people in ordinary situations. But he captures them so beautifully and with a great sense of humor. My point is that saying you need beautiful stuff around to make beautiful photographs is false. It certainly makes things easier, but it's not a requirement.

If you've paid attention to people favoring your work, you'd see all the ones of yours that i clicked . I trust your knowledge cos you're way ahead of me in experience, thanks for all the links.

I did notice that actually. No worries! I realize both our discussions started to feel like battle, but that's not my intention. My goal was just to point out some photographers that you might not have heard of. It's not to prove you wrong or myself right or anything like that! Seriously, no animosity. In fact, I appreciate talking to you since most people just say "nice photo" and move on. Discussions are good.

Yes thanks i haven't heard of them. Stuart takes some really smart shots, and funny ones. His timing and patience is genius.
