In your photos youΒ capture aΒ feeling of the citiesΒ that's halfΒ densely gritty and half ethereally dreamlike; is that what it feels like there as well?

That's exactly what it feels like! I'm so happy that this feeling comes through in my photos! Most people have this image of Japan, and especially Tokyo, as a hyper-futuristic place. And though high technology is pervasive here, the place still retains a deep sense of nostalgia. In some neighborhoods it's not unusual to come across post-war era posters on the side of old wooden buildings. Still in other places, you might find the lobby of a building decorated exactly as it was during the bubble era in the 80s. And of course the deeper past is also present in the form of shrines, the old bastions around the palace, and other monuments to the pre-Meiji times. Tokyo is a truly multi-layered and storied environment! And that's why I'm stuck here (in a good way). It's like a dream I'm addicted to and I refuse to wake up!

Yeah, snow is really great. But it is very rare here in Tokyo.

Hehe, you think that -25C and 3 feet of snow is much? You have it easy in Chicago then. Come here with -35C at noon and 2 meters of snow - now that is true winter Japanese people don`t know what is it to built real snow castle and to be able to jump from 3th floor thru the window and land into beautiful snow
And yes, you managed to capture nice kaleidoscope of colors :3

I'm from Chicago, so I know what real winter is like: -25 and 3 feet of snow. But in Tokyo, this is a lot of snow. It's also only 0 here.

Seems like a nice vacation, but it should be cooler in Hokkaido if you need a cold breeze and more snow. I thought tokyo could be very cold because of the ocean making alot of humidity.

Tokyo is actually warm because of the ocean. There is a lot of energy in the sea that keeps the coast of Japan relatively warm. Anyway, if I was on vacation I'd go to a warm place like Thailand, haha. I actually live here.
