It's WTF Friday.
This is... uh...
This is the first time I've ever been truly ashamed of drawing something. Like, not 'this picture is of poor quality' ashamed, but deep, soul-scarring shame. I-can-never-scrub-hard-enough-to-clean-away-the-dirt shame.
Anyway, this stems from something that really, really disturbed me as a kid; anthro animals owning pet animals. When I was a young girl, I owned this book... a little Minnie Mouse picture book, about her and her friend's new puppy. The thing that really, REALLY freaked me out was the fact that her friend was a dog. It was a dog owning a dog.
I just couldn't get my head around it... it was so unnerving. Was the pet dog a slave? Was it considered a lesser being for some reason, and subjected to such treatment? Was it a dog of lower iq, and therefore destined to be the plaything of some sociopathic child?????? What sort of dystopian future was this??!!???
Yeah, I dwelled on this a bit too much for a six-year-old... or maybe not enough. Don't give me that 'they're just the unevolved versions of the anthro animals, like monkeys and humans' excuse. No, there's something far more sick at play here... far, far more disturbed.

Love A goofy movie the sequel was actually good too. Makes me want to watch them again lol. I never liked Mickey his squeaky voice annoyed me.

Sure, I'm laughing, but it's a mixed bag of laughter.
I guess because I read Chronicles of Narnia at a young age, this was never an issue for me. Now, well...I use capitalization to make myself feel better. Pluto is a dog. Max and Goofy are Dogs. It's a good defense mechanism.

I can't remember... didn't Chronicles of Narnia actually address it in some way? Wonder if it was like 'Wicked', where you can have a 'goat' and a 'Goat', one being sentient and one not.

I know the books covered it. Monkey, monkey...I don't remember if it was capitalized...In The Magician's Nephew, Aslan took animals in pairs and anthropomorphized them a bit with Aslan magic. Hence, intelligent animals, or rather Animals. But not all animals.

= impoverished threshold for suspension of disbelief * (overprivileged postwar generation + n)...

This is too common an occurance, seems every show with anthro characters has a pet dog or cat in it. Always weirded me out a bit.
Why does Mickey wear pants but no shirt, yet Donald wears a shirt but no pants? Even more strange is whenever Donald goes swimming he wears Trunks instead of a shirt.

This is hilarious, but honestly, as a kid, I thought Pluto was just...well, a dog. The fact that there were other dog-like creatures in the cartoons didn't really occur to me, and I assumed the physiological differences were great enough to justify Pluto being another species.
But if you want something REALLY disturbing, Sonic the Hedgehog has a pet dog...in a series where ALL animals have anthropomorphic characteristics.

Yeah, and this isn't even my "my childhood is raped" part of the mind talking XD I think that if Mickey and Pluto were created now.. or in the 80s, there'd be a slight thing behind it, but it's just as stupid as the people saying Snow White is based around coke although you have more backup.

I think when I was about six and watching these shows I had some vague idea that pluto has either a lower IQ or some sort of mental illness that made him less "human" then the other animals. Looking back on it there's a horrible message about ableism and abuse there.
