Description Portrait time for Daspletosaurus horneri.
In my eyes this one has still the curious eyes of a juvenile, although it wouldn't be one.

During the last weekend, I decided to make some Daspletosaurus sketches after having read the polarizing paper from Thomas Carr et al and went for my own version how the structures around the snout could have looked. So, I gave my Daspletosaurus a keratinized skin with portions of the armored skin, that becomes smoother towards softer skin around the eyes for example.

In my opinion this looks a lot more natural and beautiful than the one in the paper.

Thank you for your opinion! In the paper, the reconstruction was a bit too schematic and I missed the transitions that would be there. And some bulk always fits to a Daspletosaurus

Thank you very much! I spent two days with getting the details done, because I wanted better transitions than seen in the original paper.
Do you know what I read instead of "gorgeous"? GORGOSAURUS! XD

Thank you very much
The ridges would be covered in keratin similar to the stuff we humans have on our nails.
