Description Now, it's done!
Well, the process behind the scenes can be described as "Ten percent inspiration, Ninety percent transpiration", since I reworked the stance and the placements of the Allosaurs multiple times as you can see in the concept sketches I did before. But now, it's 100 % joy for me to look at my interpretation of Live the Legend's Allosaurus, which I placed on a dry, slightly sandy ground, accompanied by ferns and horsetails.

They would be sooo cute, and maybe Little Al would sleep next to you

Hmm... if coming close to 30 ft, when becoming adults doesn't bother you

This is amazing
Allosaurus is an excellent Dinosaur

Like the shock absorber crest-horns too; they also actually protected their eyes from bright light too!

Thank you much, I did this once for an RP forum.
And for sure, they have the special something

Here, the crests look massive, but maybe they were to fragile in order to be used in a combat situation, however they look beautiful.

Well I think they protected just enough, in case there was a head impact for some reason, but they have other uses too

The aspect of protection would make sense, because it is known from some fossils (Daspletosaurus and some other species), that theropods bit into the faces of their opponents.Β

To me allosaurs with stripes look very handsome. Maybe they had stripes or another pattern

Asuma17 In reply to c-compiler [2015-03-23 16:09:23 +0000 UTC]

Yeah Allosaurus always look good in stripes, I usually compared to being just like Tigers, because their so wide ranged in their family and dominant most of Asia and are pretty gigantic than most theropods.

I'm always impressed by the size range, that Allosauroids had from mid sized allosaurs to a huge Giganotosaurus.

Yes I don't blame, I quite amazed myself. It's practically scares me a bit when I see a skeleton of one.

Yes, the female is larger than the male as it was described in the field guide of the no longer existing Live the Legend RPG.

Maybe, their females were larger, who knows
It is hard to tell from a fossil if the dinosaur was even male or female and documentaries like WWD might have contributed to this idea. I just followed the field guide

It is also one of my personal favorites.
Sadly , the LTL role play does no longer exist, while I additionally regret that I hadn't much time for it, although I really love the idea of a dinosaur rpg plus the possibility that there was my beloved Allosaurus among the playable species, although it never appeared in the JP movies nor books.

The males head looks a bit odd, mainly due to the placement of the eye, but they are great nevertheless.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

c-compiler In reply to trisdino [2014-08-12 15:39:45 +0000 UTC]

The shape of the males head is a bit different in contrast to the one of the female. I wanted to give the male a less robust look, because the males are smaller in comparison to the female Allosaurus in the LtL Field Guide.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

trisdino In reply to c-compiler [2014-08-12 16:42:49 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm, that is a bit odd. People assume that sexual dimorphism would work like that in dinosaurs, when really, there is no evidence for it. Some birds have it, and other birds do not, but there is no majority, not to mention, crocs tend to go the other way. It does not really matter, as it is not inaccurate, just a bit of a meme.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

c-compiler In reply to trisdino [2014-08-13 16:25:30 +0000 UTC]

Who knows, how sexual dimorphism worked in the different dinosaur species. I just followed the description in the "Live the Legend" field guide in order to create this illustration for the RPG. I can't predict if we will know it one day in the future or never.
If we look at the today's fauna, then in most of the cases the male is the larger individual, but there are also species, which don't have a visible dimorphism.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

trisdino In reply to c-compiler [2014-08-13 16:42:01 +0000 UTC]

It is not quite so square, not in archosaurs anyway. Eagles and most rattites have larger females, but then again, that is counter balanced by other animals. Really, it is impossible to tell, mainly because we have no living archosaur analogues to the animals in question, so there is nothing to compare.

It does not matter anyway, if you are just doing what they say, then that is that, not to mention, as I said, it is not inaccurate, I am just tired of seeing memes repeated.Β

c-compiler In reply to trisdino [2014-08-15 21:46:33 +0000 UTC]

It was just some sort of commission for me. If someone requested an Allosaur with neon pink spots along its body, then I would draw it in that way for the particular person, while I draw the Allosaurs, which are meant to be for my own pleasure to my own liking.

Nazrindi [2014-07-09 02:40:38 +0000 UTC]

I really think the details on these allos are astounding. I glanced at that RPG site before, it looks quite interesting, but I wouldn't be able to join it at this time. (Due to my deep depression lately, and work keeping me busy...along with me trying to take advantage of the few times I feel inspired to make art to draw.) But...maybe someday. The texture of the scales and on the crests is wonderful.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

c-compiler In reply to Nazrindi [2014-07-09 23:17:26 +0000 UTC]

Thank you kindly for your words. It took me a while until I found the best composition and the right color choices, which makes them look more realistic. Sometimes I tend to be a perfectionist, which isn't always a good trait, because it can make me easily frustrated, but attempting my best when doing art for someone else is a must.

I'm quite inactive in the RPG, so I didn't post in a while, although it is tempting me, but there are some things I've to do too. But, I visit the page from time to time and read the one or another post. And I noticed, many of the players are occupied by other things at this time and also not active.
Sure, if you are interested in the RPG and have time for it, then join, but it is not a must.

I should get active in LtL again (I'm D4E), but I'm just not sure where to start anymore. From looking afar, the changes made seem to be working, but I've been personally reluctant to rejoin. These Allosaurus are awesome! Are these for the Field Guide or is it just fan art?

Well, I'm actually working on a game project called Prehistoric Kingdom, making some of the dinosaur models for them or painting the (JP like) skins and that's why I became slightly inactive on LtL

Thank you for the compliment and the They were made for the Field Guide like the Dilophosaurs, I did before and for me they are a special honor.

I miss LtL, those were the good ol' days for me. I'm not active on JPLegacy anymore though and LtL became too cluttered for me with all the new content that was added a while ago, the new islands and the mainland and such.
