Description When I opened my mail box at Monday, the 17th February, I found a little package in it. I wondered, who sent me that, because I hadn't ordered anything at this time and there wasn't provided a sender. Big question marks were popping up until I opened that package and found a card from a dear friend and a chocolate box. I was smiling and literally shining after I had read the card.

I didn't want to write a simple "Thank you" in my reply, so I spent two days with drawing and painting a little comic page, where I illustrated myself as an Allosaurus, who gets surprised by the friend's gift.

Well this is quite a lovely Allosaurus. Is this the Nova before Nova?

It was really surprising, that the particular friend sent me a surprise and I still have the card on a shelf.
We both were in a therapy group, where we had good and bad times.

Oh that is so nice of your friend to do a such surprise for you!
Seems like you two are very close and I love seeing friendships like that, when you know each other so well you know you can talk about anything and throw in some surprises sometimes, like here

Have one friend who is like that and we two do great together and send stuff to each other, especially birthday and xmas time, been over to her several times, in a different country^^ Only backside is she isnt the online type or social websites at least so can take a while before I hear anything but else IΒ΄m very grateful to have her as an amazing friend Another one I do have but we dont send anything to each other but love talking when we can. My biggest fear is to lose my best friend in anyway, that would break me apart :/Β

This comic like page is a great thanks and really well done

BTW: Seen allosaurus is something special for you and means something important to you, may i ask for some short explanation why is that? Could might be like what Judge Death means to me and given me support through my life and metaphors for life.

She is a very good friend of mine and we tried to give us mutual support during a bad time, we had to undergo. Because the package should be a surprise, she didn't add a sender, so I had to figure out who sent me this. (The Allosaurus with a question mark fits there very well )

Good friends are the greatest gift you can get during a life time, so I'm happy about you have such a friend around you, even if she is located in another country. I love to spent time with my friends too and enjoy to talk with those, who are living in another country. (I'm working together with a group for creating a JPOG like simulation game called "Prehistoric Kingdom " and there is only one, who is in the same time zone like me.)
I often try to remember those good times I had with my friends and when possible I hope my friends and me can add some more good memories.

True, Allosaurus has a very special meaning for me.
My appreciation for Allosaurus is based on a dream, I had last year. Before I had this very unique dream, I hated myself, my art - so nothing prevented me from hurting myself by scratching some wounds into my skin - and I was really depressed. Bad times.
Then I dreamed I were walking through a dark valley with almost no light, merely some twilight was in the scene. Afterward I dropped into a rectangular hole and finding myself soon near a fire place with open fire and a very dark night was looming around this place. But moments later I began to change my form into one of an Allosaurus. As the metamorphosis was complete I was a powerful Allosaurus without my human problems and when I woke up, I felt completely different. And life began to become brighter.

So, that's the reason why I surround myself with Allosaurus in drawn, painted and 3d modeled form. It is like I've found my true, inner self.

That is nice to hear that you two support each other and hopefully inform each other often of what is going on in your lifes.
A bit rare that we send surprises to each other but it happens, mostly from my part xD Oh well but she surprised me with easter candy last week

Amen, close friends as I would call it is the best thing you can have, you have someone you can talk to about anything and advices and help and if you live in different countries you can travel to each other and live for free there and have fun. From my travels I have many memories and pictures from it and stuff, in some ways no matter what happens my friend will always be a part of me.
I have two close friends, mainly due to IΒ΄m a lonewolf and isnt the outgoing type so is very happy and careful and grateful for those I have. I do have other people as contacts/small friends but it isnt the same as a very close one.
Sounds like you have a such amazing friend as well and fun to see that.

Oh I see, fate/coincident have once again done something for a person I see. Nice surprise you found your inner self from a dream you had.
Sad to hear that how you felt about things in the past about your art and yourself, I never understood the idea of injuring yourself, when I tested it didnt do anything, just were as depressed as before, oh well. xD Good to see you got better after it and beliefs in yourself Reminds me about myself when I found Judge Death who is me in many ways and IΒ΄m him, 10 years and we are the same My nickname amongst people who know me or the web is: JD, short for judge death He helped me through much in my life.
Hmm being an allosaurus would be awesome, might loose some human body parts but what the, would be a much more better and more awesome thing
Your art is amazing

My friend and I don't talk to each other often, because we both living in different cities and have our duties to do, but we try to keep in touch via social networks. During our time in a therapy group, we saw us on a regular basis due to the group sessions.

Yes, it is overwhelming and relieving at the same time as I found out, who I am, respectively what is right for me. I had times in my life, where people tried to form me to their liking and to a certain degree I tried to follow their path, because I hoped they would accept me, letting me be a part of them. But inside me, there was a faint notion, that this isn't right and the impression persisted not being a part of their group.
Life moved on in this way until I couldn't tell any more what makes me happy, what is the sense of my life and so on. Hurting myself was like to give myself some sort of a punishment for the mistakes in my life and that I didn't fit into the roles, people expected from me.
For me it's intriguing to see, there are other people around, who have made a similar experience in finding their true self. So, I'm happy having you there with Judge Death.
If I woke up as an Allosaurus, it would be like a lifelong dream came true. I would probably enjoy it to be into the nature, having some sort of a territory, where I could roam.

Thank you much for your time and comments

Awwww....this is so sweet and adorable. The anatomy on you as an Allosaurus is most excellent. I love the closeup of your hand as you take the package, it looks very naturalistic. The only thing I notice is that I see your Allosaurus has knee-caps. This is something no reptile or bird has, so neither would dinosaurs. Don't worry, it's a very common mistake, but I figured I'd let you know.

The markings are wonderful. The eye stripe is very beautiful in my opinion. And, of course, I always love red crests on Allosaurus thanks to Walking With Dinosaurs. Your expression is adorable in the panel with the big question mark. I enjoy the thought of a dinosaur getting her mail, it's very cute. Something about the color scheme just looks quite realistic and believable. It's not directly based on a big cat, bird, lizard or any other modern animal like so many people draw their dinosaurs with. It tends to bother me when people directly copy a modern-day animal's color schemes and slap it on a prehistoric creature, because there's a one in a billion chance that they would have identical color schemes! Similar, *maaaybe*, but not identical.

Oooh, a very big THANK YOU for you!
I did never think about the thing with the knee-caps. And I've never seen a skeleton mount with something like a patella in front of the end of femur and the head of tibia. Thought, it wouldn't fossilize well like the gastralia or furucula.

Your expression is adorable in the panel with the big question mark. I enjoy the thought of a dinosaur getting her mail, it's very cute.

It's virtually the depiction of the moment, when I held the package in my hands, but I couldn't tell, who had sent it to me. It was a part of my friend's plan to leave me alone with the task to figure out the sender.

Something about the color scheme just looks quite realistic and believable. It's not directly based on a big cat, bird, lizard or any other modern animal like so many people draw their dinosaurs with.
… any other modern animal, except me, at least partially The dark brown, I used for the stripe around the eye and for coloring the part from neck to the tip of the tail matches perfectly the color of my hair.
There would have been a lot of examples of living animals to pick from, but I had an own concept already in my mind, thanks to a dream.

But still, it seems like patellas aren't very noticeable at all on birds, so I think that patellas that really stick out are a more mammalian trait.
Here's some pictures of featherless chickens to show this:
oddanimals.com/images/featherl… There, you can see a hint of it, but most photos don't show even that much.
watchmen-news.com/wp-content/u…
I know they're ugly, but they're great for showing us what birds look like underneath the feathers, which is even more helpful for paleoartists.
3.bp.blogspot.com/-bU7JWlxlZbQ…
artoferickuns.files.wordpress.… This one shows the most "knee". But it's horrible...it seems to be missing a beak! D: Actually...I think this looks photoshopped...so who knows...

Thank you for giving me such insights into avian anatomy. The patella is only barely visible on the leg.
True, these images aren't the nicest to look at, but Leonardo da Vinci examined the bodies of dead people to gain knowledge about the muscles and functions of the human body.
So, I learnt a bit more, although I don't claim to be a paleoartist nor being scientifically correct.
(There are more ambitious people out there than me Β )

Yeah, that's very true, about Leonardo da Vinci. And it's hard to draw something realistically if you don't understand the anatomy of whatever the animal it is you're trying to draw.

It's okay. I just wanted to share, is all.

artoferickuns.wordpress.com/ta… And that. XD I apologize. I was so focused on looking at the kneecaps that I didn't know the chicken had multiple legs and arms until I took a second look! I'm sorry.

Yes, you'd told me about the dream...and interesting, since my hair is also dark brown.

As for the patella, well...wikipedia says that birds have one. Which...I never knew that before!

But I guess the jury is still out as to whether or not dinosaurs had them:
