Description Another old idea made with Pimp My Gun.

Protection and firepower in one package.
Basically, it's a shield that carries explosives on the front to keep the enemies away.

The shield got its name because the original idea was to line the front with claymore mines. But figuring that a bullet to the mine may render the shield's additional function useless; I thought maybe C4 mixed with metal balls might be a better alternative.

How many charges does it have? 4 or 8?

Current plan is 4 rows with 3 claymores each

12 charges in total, right?

yeah, pretty much

Here we go, some proper reactive armor! Reduce the power on those charges or increase the weight of the shield, and you'd have a pretty fierce little weapon there.

It could be used in a non-lethal way with CO2 propellant and rubber balls or rock salt

For riots and stuff.

now that could be very handy! In a Warhammer 40k melee kind of of situation.

Well, not trying to be a snob or anything, but a claymore mine IS a block of C4 covered with metal balls, so you haven't really redesigned it.

The main problem I see is that Sir Newton and his pesky laws of physics will knock the operator on his butt despite the bipod/tripod apparatus - wounding or possibly killing him from the backblast driving the shield into him. It's possible that if the bipod legs were kicked out to say - 60 degrees and were greatly lengthened, it MIGHT resist the backblast.

Perhaps using a "metalstorm" type gun with its rate of fire slowed down instead of a claymore would work better due to having a longer duration but lower peak energy recoil force.

I admit that the shield would be a hell of stretch in RL. But it would be more fitable in a video game or movie.

Oh, well for a video game then that's fine. My personal video game weapon would be a belt-fed, full-auto, bowling-ball machine gun - knock the snot out of stuff.

I make my living as a "problem-solver" in a robotic environment. So my imagination is centered around thinking up real-world solutions to problems. I only meant to provide constructive criticism. I can't watch a movie or TV show without groaning over technical/practical impossibilities either.

No, but i know how explosive devices (e.g. Claymore mines) work.
Sadlily, the artist doesn't seem to...

unicyclefred In reply to CalebKane [2011-03-14 03:00:11 +0000 UTC]

ya well... live a lil will ya!

maybe the user of the shield is master chief and is just awesome enough to make the shield work the way the artist wanted it to. did you think of that!?!?!? [gasps for air] [pops a cough drop]

CalebKane In reply to unicyclefred [2011-03-15 04:08:43 +0000 UTC]

Master Chief is owned by physics engine still.

not in the novels! did you know he karate-chopped a heat seeking missile! what do you have against that!

woooooo! i'm on a comeback roll

ok sorry, but i think we are all taking this a little too seriously here

(and, i researched claymore mines for a couple hours and stand firm with my opinion that 117, the master chief, could easily use this shield. he is ONE WHOLE TON OF PURE UNSTOPPABLE AWESOMENESS!!!!!!!!!)

I do give a fuck about batshit crazy novels that cash in on a bad FPS that was shit because it was ruined by MS.

i'm going to pretend that you didn't just call halo a bad FPS. because halo is the least generic, most heart wrenching, bitter sweet, love hate, fun depressing shooter out there.

(i'll put it in basic for ya) nothing in all history can beat halo for being legendary.

Wow! You think an old game from the 90's is better than Halo? Your opinion is invalid.

CalebKane In reply to c-force [2011-03-17 01:46:39 +0000 UTC]

Wolf 3D was the first FPS, so yes, yes it is better with respect to being groundbreaking and revolutionizing video games.
It began ID's rise to fame and a new era of video games, it CREATED the genre of FPS. What did Halo do compared to that?

Oh, it had vehicles?
Fucking dog modse in Rise of the Triad, even SHADOW WARRIOR, TRIBES and GOLDENEYE had tanks already!

But granted, Halo did copy things from many other FPS forerunners and put em together, polished them nicely.

But it was far from being "innovative".

c-force In reply to CalebKane [2011-03-17 02:07:05 +0000 UTC]

If not for the Halo series. Every FPS now would stick to the old school template.
Sure, other games had introduced concepts before Halo came out; But Halo had improved on those concepts, thus why it's the popular juggernaut it is now.

It's things like this is why you're gonna be a game, while I go on and be a game developer.

Yes, of course, the industry awaits the coming of the great Andy Yuan, a dude that draws yiff stuff en masse that makes even the hardcore furries sad.
Dude, in what warped reality do you live in?

Porecomesis In reply to CalebKane [2012-04-01 10:14:04 +0000 UTC]

No offence or anything but I'm going to partly side with both of you.

Honestly, I prefer my things to have both awesomeness AND verisimilitude. Even the most awesome things can be grounded in reality and still seem awesome. This is why I detest the "It doesn't have to be realistic!" rebuttal; rea- I mean, verisimilitude and awesomeness aren't mutually exclusive.

Same can be asked about you.
At least I don't live in a reality where originality and uniqueness is bad.

And besides, I don't always draw furries. If you looked through my gallery, you'll see that there are humans and non-furry stuff.

ok whaaa i got the FPS as first person shooter but MS??? what kind of creepy secret agent are you?

there are about a million things that MS could stand for.

CalebKane In reply to unicyclefred [2011-03-16 22:12:01 +0000 UTC]

MicroSoft?
And yes, Halo is a bad FPS, because it is the most generic FPS i can imagine. It's groundbreaking theoretical concept was great, until the developer was bought by MS who IIRC replaced the whole crew working on the project, and remade the whole concept, turning it upside down and watering down the concept.

Let alone the fact it is a game that actually keeps the crippled controlls of the console versions in the pc version...
