Confound these Minecraft ponies, they drive me to architectural addiction! >.<I kinda half-suspected that game would lure me away from Derpy for a while... but I finally broke free and worked on her with my full attention. ^___^

In any event, Derpy is my third favorite non-Mane6 pony, and everyone's favorite easter egg in Season 2. ^__^
Here she's demonstrating your usual run-of-the-mill pegasus hovering, and while the initial wing animation was done literally frame-by-frame (probably unnecessarily-so, but I'm rusty...
), her second wing is pretty much a clone of the first one + an inversion warp + a reposition + a dark overlay for the darker shade. Very big time savings there once the work is all done. ^^Definitely some room for improvement, though... the animation is only 26fps due to the peculiar way I did the wings using a single vector. Broken out between 3 or 4 different vectors, I can probably achieve a smoother look as well as the flexibility to export at higher frame rates without weird tween deformations.
But for now... enjoy this "derped" graphic. ^.^

haha, hardly a master, and probably you meant to say "was" one anyway since it'll almost be two years since I last made them.
Just to clarify, these weren't done frame by frame since the strength of Synfig lies in its amazing tweening abilities. Besides, I also based the animation closely on the original MLP flying animation, so if anything it's those folks that deserve the praise. ^^

Haha, thank you. Well we're pretty much in the two-year anniversary of these things... I haven't kept on top of Synfig developments, but I'd hope their team would have improved their UI a bit more since that was the hardest thing to get used to. ^^

Oh, well if you were hoping for UI improvements then I'd suggest that you don't take a look at it in its current state. I think there has only been one minor release in the last 2 years anyway.

Hey. I wanna make a flash game with derpy but you're the only person who has a decent gif of derpy flying. So I was wondering if I could use it for the flash and credit you somewhere. (Title screen, credits screen. I've not decided yet.)

Sure... according to the description and the license used on this, you can use it for whatever you want, even without asking. Credit might be to get over-dramatic people off your back (and to conform with the whole Creative Commons thing), but I'm not really worried about it. Derpy isn't my character, after all.

hehe, I exited the animation market MONTHS ago, so not happening for sure.
But hey, the source is available, so anyone willing to learn the program can also easily animate the eyes too. ^^

When it comes to Synfig, tutorials are your friend. You only need one to get your confidence up, and things should only go up from there if you really enjoy doing animation work, after which the program's true power starts to manifest. ^^
Its one limitation is that it's still not a fully mature product due to the lower participation in its development -- something like Blender has way more community support.
