Description
Gizmo Dumps! Not only the name of the portable toilet in Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera's robot suit, it is also what I call a sketch dump of random gadgets that I compelled from the sanity breaking nightmarish hellhole that is my brain.Except this one has a bit of a theme to it. Well, 2 themes, but the first one was intentional.
Some of you may remember from a previous status post I did that my method of inspiration is that I take things I like from media and mix them together. In order to remind myself of that, I looked through one of my many, many un-finished sketchbooks and decided to make a collection of all the gadgets I knew, for a fact, was loosely based off of something else I like from media. And I decided to barf it all over your faces.
You're welcome.
First off is "Boxing Tank". Which is exactly what it sounds like: a tank vehicle that has giant boxing gloves instead of, you know, a giant gun. This idea is loosely based off of something from what I assume was suppose to be the last episode of Team Umizoomi: Umi Space Heroes. In the episode, Geo; the shapes hero, had to get away from this things called a Junk Smasher.
Keep your minds out of the gutter, people. I'm talking about a preschool show, for crust's sake.
What I'm talking about was a vehicle that was designed to smash garbage on a planet that was literally a giant landfill. They looked almost exactly as the tank I drew, but instead of boxing gloves, it had a giant mallet to smash piles of garbage flat.
So what I did was just put the gloves instead of the hammer. Why? No idea. Some of these sketches are so old, they predate the context's expiration date. But I'm at least 46 & 8 3rds % sure that I got the boxing gloves idea from something out of those Mario Party games.
Next up is a Multi-Blaster: a handheld ray gun. I got inspired to drew this from watching episode of Word Girl where Dr. Two Brains; my fav villain on that show, had a "Combo Ray" that had multiple settings. That settings thing we'll get to later, but the design of the blaster came from the inspiration from the Combo Ray.
Except for the fact that my blaster looks nothing like the combo ray. So saying these 2 are somehow connect makes about as much sense as saying chickens are related to dinosaurs: it's not wrong, it's just a massive leap in logic.
The design of the blaster itself is straight forward; clock-like dialing system, satellite dish in front, wind up key in the back and those electro-things that you usually see in a mad scientist's lab.
Speaking of ray guns with multiple settings: next is the Master Remote (name in progress). It's your typical remote that does everything that you see in...too many things to list. I had a list of possible settings in mind, hence how this comes from the Combo Ray:
* Size manipulation (shrink/growth ray)
*Navigation System
*Controls Machines
*Laser Scanner
*Blaster
*Tractor Beam
The actual design for the M.R. isn't based off of something from media. It's based off of those scanner things you see in stores used by the poor unfortunate souls who work retail. I just like the design of those things. So many buttons and whatnot. Gives you a lot of ideas of what the buttons could do in a cartoon logic world.
Next is a Bubble Bike; a motorcycle that has a set of treads instead of wheels and expels bubbles instead of gas clouds. This vehicle's the result of me watching all of the Paw Patrol Moto Pups episodes and tried to design a few motorcycles myself. One of which was the Raptor Cycle you've probably seen before.
And last but not least is a robotic cupboard...So, context, yeah.
You guys ever watched Wallace & Gromit as a kid? I did and I thought they were quite crackerjack. Also taught me a lot of cool British words. On the very first movie they did: A Grand Day Out, Wallace and Gromit go to a vacation on the moon and run into this rover that resembles a gas cooker with cartoon gloves and a wheel. Hence the robot's name: Cooker.
So I basically drew Cooker but as something other than a cooker; a closet cupboard. But why? Well, I had a giant one of these in my old bedroom in my original NYC apartment. But when my family moved to the lovely town of [NAME AND ADDRESS WITHHELD], we had to get rid of it. So I must've drawn this right when we got rid of it. And considering we moved 2 whole years ago, the original sketch of this is O-L-D ancient.
So, yeah, the first theme of these doodles is that they're all from cartoons or memories I had from the past, as per my inspiration schtick.
What's the other theme? These inventions either have treads, cartoon hands, lots of buttons, wind up keys or some variation thereof. And like I said: that wasn't intentional.
