I think my favorite bit of flair for this Whiphid (proper spelling, cuz I'm a geek) big game hunter is the ornate carving of the tusks. Those have GOT to be implants... right? No one is mad enough to let you carve on their natural teeth... are they?

Perhaps it's a rite of passage for the Whiphid elite...or simply the Whiphid version of gold caps! Such is the fun of creating an image with those kind of details. It's a playground for the imagination!

I love Whipids. They are so ... ugly

They are indeed ugly, Poe...but that makes them interesting characters!

Ahhhh yes. The Whipid. Always cool to draw these guys, Paul. Enjoyed putting him in a setting and telling a bit of a story with this.

When I bought my copy of "Heroes and Rogues" years ago, I think this picture is what stood out to me the most. Sure the book had other good artwork and action poses, but this one really makes you wonder where this character has been in life to acquire such oddities. There's more "story" here, I guess, than the average character portrait. I never really cared about Whiphids until this picture came out. It changed my mind completely. Odd that I remember all that, haha.

Maybe a little odd, Rob...but you are exactly the kind of imagination I worked hard to reach. I put those details into my illustrations because, 1. I wanted to see those kinds of things myself...2. I wanted to spark the imaginations of those who used the books...and 3. I hoped to make the books worth the money you paid for them.

Oh, and at the time, I thought the carved tusks were extremely cool.

Yeah a Whipid. This was one of a couple that you did that featured them. Made me like the race a lot more. You gave many canon races a good bit of life.

I appreciate you saying that, Samurai-san. That was definately the goal!

Daily life Star Wars drawings are so enjoyable.

Yes...even if the definition of "daily life" is far different from our own. That is, however, part of the great appeal!

That is one relaxed looking Whippid. I'd like to chill with him sometime. He has a cool looking den.

Yep...just relaxing in his Den of Curiousities...leisurely polishing his blaster. Or is that a blow-dryer? Either way, he is at ease amongst his collection. Even had his own tusks carved into works of art!
